J.P. DAWSON---Funeral for J.P. Dawson, 73, of Center, was held December 31, 2001 in Mangun Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial was in Jackson Cemetery.  Mr. Dawson died December 28, at Holiday Nursing Center.  He was born January 17, 1928 in Durrett, Oklahoma to Charles Chester and Mary Etta Magnese Dawson.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Dawson and J.W. Dawson; sister, Mary Lou Timmons.  Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife Mable Dawson of Center; daughters Deborah Leggett of Joaquin, Jean Moore of Center and Peggy Whitton of Joaquin; brother, J.C. Dawson of Silsbee; sisters Juanita Riley of Tenaha, Bertrice Stuard of Junction City, Arkansas and Dorothy Roe of Port Aruthur; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mangum Funeral Home.
MYRTIE WHIDDON---Funeral for Myrtie Whiddon, 88, of Joaquin was held December 30, 2001 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Willow Grove Cemetery in Joaquin.  Ms. Whiddon died December 27, 2001 at Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena.  She was born July 7, 1913 in Shelby County to James Sylvester and Sarah Elizabeth Covington Snider.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Earl Whiddon; and 11 brothers and sisters.  Ms. Whiddon is survived by her son, Bobby R. Whiddon of Houston; daughter Doris Clemmons of La Porte Jackie Stevens of Joaquin and Lou Vasilou of Houston; son James H. Whiddon of Joaquin; and a host of other relatives and friends.   Mangum Funeral Home.
HELEN M. WILLOUGHBY---Graveside service for Helen M. Willoughby, 76, of Center was held December 29, 2001 at Sardis Cemetery.  Ms. Willoughby died December 27, 2001 at Willis Knighton Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana.   She was born February 5, 1925 in Louisiana to George Alton and Alma Price.   She was preceded in death b her parents; husband Westley T. Willoughby; brother A.J. Price; sisters Margarite Wright, Mildred Duncan and Juanita Graham. Ms Willoughby is survived by her daughter, Rita Corbell; Debra Miles of Center; son Henry Willoughby of Center; brothers Alton price and Wendell Price of Louisiana; and numerous other relatives and friends.  Mangum Funeral Home.
JIM A. GARRETT---Funeral for Jim A. Garrett, 78, of Patroon, was held December 29, 2001 in East Liberty Baptist Church in Center.   Burial was in East Liberty Cemetery.   Mr. Garrett died December 24, 2001 in Round Rock.  He is survived by daughter, Joannie Garret Wade of Edmond, Oklahoma, sons, Jimmy F. Garrett of Houston, Jackie E. Garrett of Austin, Jeffery G. Garrett of Pflugerville and Jolie L. Garrett of New York; sister, Myrtle Harris of Houston; brother, Leonard Garrett of Shelbyville; and numerous other relatives and friends  Percy Garney & Son Mortuary, San Augustine.
LEWIS D. BAILEY---Funeral for Lewis D. Bailey, 73, of San Augustine was held December 31, 2001 at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Neuville Cemetery, Shelby County.  Mr. Bailey died December 28. 2001 in San Augustine.  He was born April 17, 1928 in Shelby County to Drew and Gladys Johnson Bailey.  He was a Mechanic.  Mr. Bailey is survived by his fiancee, Jerri Lout of San Augustine; son Lewis Wayne Bailey of Katy; daughter, Velma Jean Bailey of San Augustine; brothers Elbert Bailey of Center and Vernon   Bailey of San Augustine; sisters, Velma Page of San Augustine and Dorothy Askew of Longstreet, Louisiana. 
GEORGE SAMMONS---Funeral for George Sammons, 77, of Center, was held January 2, 2002 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Mr. Sammons died December 31, 2001 in Nacogdoches.   Survivors include daughters, Samantha Jo Sammons of Center, Joyce Moore of Timpson, Janan Ross of Center, Barbara Davis of Houston, Martha Nell Sammon of Crockett, Kay Sammons of Houston; brother Robert Sammons of Hutchins.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
JAMES "SHANNON" FLEMING---Funeral for James "Shannon" Fleming, 31, formerly of Center was held Decmeber 29, 2001 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel.   Burial was in Oaklawn Memoral Park Mausoleum.  Mr. Fleming was born February 10,1 970 in Scotty and Wanda Bailey Fleming.  He died Decmeber 24, 2001 in las Veaga, Nevada.  Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by his grand parents, Pat and Shine Fleming; uncles, Jerry Bob Bailey and Glenn Bailey.  He is survived by his parents Scotty and Wanda Baily Fleming; brother  Scott Fleming; sistger, Shearmon Fleming of Nashville, Tennessee; children, Alesxis and Nicholas Fleming of Dubach, Louisiana; grandparents Betty Newton of Center and J.D.and Irene Bailey of Center; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Mangum Funeral Home.
LUCILLE MCCARTY---Funeral services for Lucille McCarty, 73, of Patroon, were held December 29, 2001 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial was in Patroon Cemertery, Shelby County.  Mrs. McCarty was born September 27, 1928 in Shelby County To Charlie and Mattie Monroe Rayburn.  She died December 26, 2001 in Houston.  She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Mattie Rayburn; brothers, Jewel Rayburn, Bruce Rayburn, Clyde Rayburn and Evan Cain; and sister Ruby Smith.  Mrs. McCarty is survived by her dughter Mattie Lou Barrios of Houston and Laura Grace Clark of Waco; sons Charles Elton McCarty of Houston and Alton lee McCarty of McComb, Mississippi; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
CHARLES LYNN NUTT---Funeral for Charles Lynn Nutt, 69, of Center was held December 29, 2001 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.   Burial wa in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Mr. Nutt was born April 22, 1932 in Panola County to Travis Buford and Jessie Clotille Ross Nutt.   He died December 27, 2001 in Center. Mr. Nutt was the owner of the Dairy Queen in Center.  Mr. Nutt is survived by his wife Bobbie Nutt of Center; daughter Charlotte Holt of Ft. Worth; son Jerry L. DOROTHY JANE SMITH HODNEY LITTLETON---Funeral for Dorothy Jane Smith Hodney Littleton, 79, of Center, were held Decmebe 28, 2001 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  Mrs. Littleton was born December 17, 1922 to Charles and Blanche Marie Smith in Galveston County.  She died December 27, 2001 in Center.   Mrs. Littleton was preceded in death by her husbands Albert Lewis Hodney and Carl Littleton; and sister, Blauche Fultz.  Mrs. Littleton is survived by her son son Darrell Michael Hodney of Center; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
