The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting January 21, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker this month will be Roy Blackshear. He will be speaking about the History of Bone Hill. Everyone is invited to come out and hear this program on local history that a lot of our citizens don't know.  NOTE THE CHANGE OF TIME.

Doris L. Thompson, 70, of Center, died January 1, 2014 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born October 20, 1943 in Center to A. E. Wagstaff and Evie Lou Anthony Wagstaff. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Billy Ray Thompson, Sr.; Brother, Jerry Wagstaff; Stepson, Ray Thompson. Survivors include, Children, M. C. “Bubba” Metcalf & wife, Janet of Tenaha, Johnny Metcalf & wife, Renee of Deadwood, Billy Ray Thompson, Jr. of Center; Sisters, Billie Hooper, Mary Guidroz, Ima Hendricks, Linda Rachal.

Albert Louis Reynolds, Sr., 63, of Center, died January 03, 2014 at Trinity Nursing & Rehab in San Augustine, Texas. Interment was in Asbury Chapel Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born June 16, 1950 to V. A. and Alma Cooley Reynolds. BRUCE RILEY SAMFORD, SR.
Bruce Riley Samford, Sr., 76, of Timpson, died January 6, 2014 at his home. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas. He was born August 14, 1937 in Tenaha, Texas. Bruce graduated in 1956 from Tenaha High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyal Samford and Ella Marie Tidwell, his father and mother-in-law, Marcus and Emily Powers, his grandparents, Nugent and Cleo Samford by whom he was raised. Survivors include, Wife, Patricia Powers Samford; Children, Sandie Crawford, Terrie Nix & husband, Milt, Jerrie Strahan & husband, Robbie, and Bruce Riley Samford, Jr. & wife, Tina, all of Timpson; Sister, Carolyn Hairgrove.

Joe W. Samford, 89, of College Station, died January 2, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Interment was in Mt. Herman Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born June 3, 1924 in Center, Texas to Eli and Velma Samford. He served his country in WWII as a member of the 10th Mountain Division. He was preceded in death by, Wife, Mary Quisenberry Samford. Survivors include, Son, Donald; Daughter-in-law, Sandra Burleson Samford; Sister-in-law, Glenda Sue Conner & husband, Jerry.

Carl T. Campbell, 86, of Port Arthur, died January 2, 2014 in Beaumont. Interment was in Carroll Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born September 4, 1927 in Huxley to Jim Fred Campbell and Callie Furlow Campbell. Mr. Campbell served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
