G. W. Permenter -Enlisted State of Texas Ranger Force July 3, 1933 at rank of Special Ranger; extended to July 2, 1935.  Papers do not show a discharge date. George W. Permenter's enlistment papers for the Texas Rangers indicate that he was 47 years, 3 months of age.  He was 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighed 145 pounds.  He had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair.  He was married, a farmer, and lived in Center, Texas.

Claud O. Permenter - Enlisted State of Texas Ranger Force June 5, 1933 at rank of Special Ranger; extended to June 4, 1935; discharged January  22, 1935.  Claude O. Permenter's enlistment papers in the Texas Rangers indicates that he was 41 years and 3 months old at time of enlistment.  He was 5 feet 7 1/2 inches tall and weighed 133 pounds.  He had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair.  He was married, a farmer, and lived in Center, Texas. alicepermenter@cox-internet.com

My name is Leslie Latham Baker. My family and I are still looking for any information we can get on my GR. GR. GR. GR. grandfather John Latham, the first settler of Shelby.  We cannot find out where he is buried. We cannot find out who his parents were. His date of birth is 1762 in Beaufort Co., NC, and his date of death is 1828 Dreka, Shelby Co., TX.  We are hoping for photos of his old log cabin, and especially any of his belongings. EMMA L. HAIRGROVE
   Emma L. Hairgrove, 92, of the Buena Vista Community died February 12, 2004 in Nacogdoches.  Burial was in Buena Vista Cemetery. Born June 21, 1911, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of David Alvis and Martha Cammack Hairgrove.  Ms. Hairgrove is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.  Taylor Funeral Home.
CATHY BRADSHAW
   Cathy Bradshaw, 43, of Center died February 16, 2004 in Center. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Born November 15, 1950, in Marlboro, Mass., she was the daughter of James E. and Eleanor F. McNamara Rand.  Ms. Bradshaw is survived by husband, Rex Bradshaw; sons, Derek DiVerdi, Buddy Bradshaw and Branden Bradshaw, all of Center; daughters, Denny King, Kristin Whisenant and Donna McSwain, all of Center. and Stacey Scarborough and Melissa McGhen, both of Huxley; brothers, William Rand of Shrewsbury, Mass. and Richard Rand of Northboro, Mass; sisters, Carol Gelinas of Spencer, Mass, Karen Pozzi of Raleigh, North Carolina, Cindy Henderson of Shrewsbury, Mass., Candy Snyder of Newmarket, New Hampshire and Kay DeWolf of Millbury, Mass.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
HOMA ASKEW
   Homa Askew, 88, of Center died February 16, 2004 in Center.  Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery.  Born October 5, 1915, in Shelby County, he was the son of Eugene and Elizabeth Gilliam Askew.  Mr. Askew was married to Lillian Campbell Askew, and she preceded him in death. Survivors include sons, Leon Askew of Gilmer, Larry Askew and Glynn Askew, both of Center; daughter, Anita Fleming of Longview; sisters, Wanda Enmon of Ponchatoula, Louisiana and Helen Lout of Center.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
KENNETH H. WEEKS
   Kenneth H. Weeks, 73 of Fort Worth died February 13, 2004 in Fort Worth.   Burial was in White Rock Cemetery, Shelby County.  Mr. Weeks was born March 16, 1930, in Alexandria, Louisiana.   Survivors include wife, Trenoy Weeks of Fort Worth; children, Elaine Lee and Sylvia Salter, both of Fort Worth, Gregory B. Weeks, of Belton, Mitzi Stevens of Weatherford.   Mangum Funeral Home.
EUELL FURLOW
   Euell Furlow, 90, of Huxley, died February 17, 2004 in Center.  Burial was in Wimberly-Rayburn Cemetery.  Born July 14, 1913, in Shelby County, he was the son of Willie and Maggie Roberts Furlow.   Mr. Furlow was preceded in death by his wives, Lemaron Furlow and Veola Furlow.   Survivors include his wife, Trudy Furlow of Winnsboro; son, Roger Furlow of Winnsboro.  Mangum Funeral Home.
RAY BUSH
   Ray Bush, 81, of Center died February 17, 2004 in Center.  Burial was in New Hope Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born April 18, 1922, in Shelby County, he was the son of Jess O. and L.T. Williams Bush.   Survivors include wife, Iva Dell Bush of Center; son, Kelley Ray bush of Pasadena; step-daughters, Angie Edgar of Hemphill and Shelley Williams of Nacogdoches; step-son, Kirk Butler of Hemphill; brother, Ozroe Bush of Center; sisters, Thelma Langley of Center and Faye Allen Of Bradley, Arkansas.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
CLAUDE RUSHING RAMSEY
   Claude Rushing Ramsey, 89, of Stonewall, Louisiana died February 18, 2004 in Shreveport.  Burial was in Antioch Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born December 14, 1914, in Shelby County, he was as Shelby County Clerk.  Survivors include his wife, Doris Ruth Ramsey of Stonewall; son, Mart F. Thomas of Stonewall; daughter, Sharon Blackmon of Athens.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
JAMES E. WATKINS
   James E. Watkins, 60, of Center died February 19, 2004 in Center.   Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.   Born November 1, 1943, he was the son of Lovis and Norrid Morgan Watkins.  Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Jeanette L. Watkins; son, Steve Watkins of Factoryville, Pennsylvania; daughter Stacy Garrison of Austin; mother, Norrid Watkins; sisters, Jerilyn Adams of Center and Linda Kay Grubbs of Houston, Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
