My name is Leslie Latham Baker. My family and I are still looking for any information we can get on my GR. GR. GR. GR. grandfather John Latham, the first settler of Shelby.  We cannot find out where he is buried. We cannot find out who his parents were. His date of birth is 1762 in Beaufort Co., NC, and his date of death is 1828 Dreka, Shelby Co., TX.  We are hoping for photos of his old log cabin, and especially any of his belongings. MAX B. HELPINSTILL
   Max B. Helpinstill, 88, of Center died February 20, 2004 in Shelbyville.   Cremation was requested.  Born October 5, 1915, in Shelby County, he was the son of Sam and Velma Alford Helpinstill.  Mr. Helpinstill was married to Frances Helpinstill and she preceded in death.  Survivors include daughter, Kathy Lee Thomas of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son Robert John Helpinstill of Bluemont, Virginia; sister, Norma Smith of Shelbyville.  Mangum Funeral Home.
OLETA SAMFORD LAWSON LITTLE
   Oleta Samford Lawson Little, 81 of White Settlement died February 20, 2004 in White Settlement.  Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.  Born November 27, 1922, she was the daughter of Elmer and Lena Mae Wilson Samford.  Ms. Little was married to Hern Lawson, Jr. and Arthur E. Little, and they preceded her in death.  Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Lawson of Fort Worth; brother Douglas Samford of Carthage.  Mangum Funeral Home.
OTIS G. BROWN
   Otis G. Brown, 95, of Center died February 19, 2004 in Center.  Burial was in Johnson Cemetery, Joaquin.  Born March 29, 1908, in Shelby County, he was the son of Robert E. Lee and Mary Magdalene Harelson Brown.  Mr. Brown was married to Chrisie Brown and Clister Brown and they preceded him in death. Survivors include daughter Ramona Kirby of Rockwall; sons, Otis Gayle Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada and Guy Leyton Brown of Henderson, Nevada.  Mangum Funeral Home.
LERA MAE OLIVER TIDWELL
   Lera Mae Oliver Tidwell, 77, of Timpson died February 19, 2004 in Nacogdoches.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Born November 28, 1926, she was the daughter of Robert Elmer and Ledora Warr Oliver.  Survivors include husband Norris Tidwell of Timpson; daughters, Linda Dorene Nettle of Glenn Heights and Johnnie Hazel Morrow; step-children, Wendell Tidwell, Katy Fisher, Susan Cummings, Andrea Polog, Roger Tidwell and Ralph Tidwell; brother, Harold Oliver of Wells,  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
JOHN TRAVIS WILSON
   John Travis Wilson, 84, of Center died February 22, 2004 in Center. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  Born May 22, 1919 in Shelby County, he was the son of Lee and Lela Warr Wilson.  Mr. Wilson was married to Bennie Wilson and she preceded him in death.  Survivors include sons, Marcus Wilson of Center and Mickey Wilson of Nacogdoches; daughters, Jan Cruse of Huntsville and Connie Mathison of Montgomery, Alabama; brother Elsie Wilson of Center.   Watson & Sons Funeral Home
JOE LYNN SPELLS
   Joe Lynn Spells, 59, of Shreveport, Louisiana died February 22, 2004 in Shreveport.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Shelby County.  Born January 25, 1945, he was the son of James David and Lerline Spells.  Mr. Spells is survived by his mother Lurlene Spells; daughters, Joanna Mancini of Woodway, Paula Cantrel of Landrum, South Carolina and Penny Fertitta of Shreveport; son, Kevin Lynn Spells of Houston; sister, Patsy Johnson of Lufkin; brothers, Michael Spells of Lufkin, James Paul Spells of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Bobby Spells of Diboll.  Mangum Funeral Home.
R. L. "BO" ADKISON
   R. L. Adkison, 71 of Houston died February 20, 2004.  Burial was in New Hope Cemetery, Shelby County.  Survivors include his wife Syble Adkison; children, Randy Adkison and Rhonda Morgan; brothers Alton, Jerry, Hayes and Dewey; sisters, Bobbie Bell and Maxie Box; half sister Faye Crosslin.   Mangum Funeral Home
ELIZABETH MOSES BAILEY
   Elizabeth Moses Bailey, 83, of Timpson died February 20, 2004 in Nacogdoches.   Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Born July 2, 1920, in Gibsland, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Aaron Burnet and Ruby Harrison Moses.  Ms. Bailey was married to Sherrill T. Bailey, Sr. and he preceded her in death.  Survivors include son, Tad Bailey of Chandler; daughter, Patricia Hooper of Gary; sister, Reginia Rutherford of Flower Mound.  Taylor Funeral Home.
DR. J. W. MCKIBBEN, JR.
   Dr. J.W. McKibben, Jr., 83 of Modesto, California died February 2, 2004.   Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson.   Born December 14, 1920, in Oakland, California, he was the son of Justin W. McKibben, Sr. and Florence Goddard McKibben.  Survivors include his wife, Dr. Mary McKibben of Modesto, California; son, Dr. Fred McKibben of Altadena, California; daughter, Helen McKibben of Bethesda, Maryland; brother, David McKibben of Walnut Creek, California.   Taylor Funeral Home.
