The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting March 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speakers this month will be Chris Watlington and some of his students. They will be speaking about the history of some of the buildings on the downtown square. Everyone is invited to come out and hear this program on local history.

Sarah Pearl Godwin Stephens, 87, of the Logan Community in Panola County, Texas, died February 21, 2014 in Carthage. Interment was in Deadwood Cemetery. Sarah Pearl Godwin Stephens was born on April 29, 1926, in Hope, Arkansas to Melvin Hartwell and Eugenia Turnage Godwin. She was preceded in death by, Husband, James Fred Stephens; Brothers, Lynn Elvin Godwin, Ben Ervin Godwin, Alvin Franklin Godwin, Clyde Farley Godwin; Sisters, Mattie Belle Shires, Thelma Pauline Bice, Exa Doris Eason. Survivors include, Son, James Riley Stephens & wife, Brenda of Shelbyville; Daughter, Mary Louise Kelly & husband, Henry of Fair Play; Brother, Melvin Harold Godwin & wife, Becky of Clayton; Sister, Emma Louise Godwin.
