New Stuff/Additions/Corrections

The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on March 20, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum. The guest speaker this month will be Dr. John Rogers.  He will be bring a program on the maneuvers of the troops getting ready for General Patton's forces in WWII.  They trained in and around our area.  He will have a video presentation along with his speech.   Joy Haverton was scheduled to speak this month but is unable to do the meeting and will reschedule for a later date.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Pat Sue Amburn Hardy, 70, of San Augustine, Texas, died March 3, 2012 in San Augustine. Interment was in Liberty Hill Memorial Garden, San Augustine. She was born March 18, 1941 in San Augustine to Rube Amburn and Annie Lena Crawford. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, Bonell, Charles, Doug, Tommy, David, Billy and Kenneth Amburn; Sister, Gertie Amburn Leach. Charles Delton Metcalf, 92, of Joaquin, died March 1, 2012 in Center, Texas. Interment was in Holly Springs Cemetery, Shelbyville, Texas. He was born December 9, 1919 in Shelby County to James Cleon “Jim” and Sadie Beasley Metcalf. Charles served his country in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, James Metcalf, Richard Permenter, Eldridge Permenter, Audice Metcalf; Sisters, Ethel, Lydia & Pinkie. Survivors include. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, Lee Anthony, Wood Anthony, Jim Anthony, Marlin Anthony, Dick Anthony; Sister, Evie Wagstaff; Father of her daughter, Harry Denton.
