THE SHELBY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING

The Shelby County Historical Society will have their monthly meeting Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 6:30 P. M.  This meeting will be help in the Training Room of the Farmers State Bank on Shelbyville Street.  The guest speaker will be Dr. Jerry Hopkins.  He will speak on the history of Farmers State Bank.  Everyone is invited.

John Paul Sanford, 89, of Center, died March 3, 2011 in Center. Burial was in Borders Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born January 4, 1922 in Shelby County to John Henry and Viola May Borders Sanford. He served his country in the U. S. Marines. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Gladys Sanford; Daughter, Marion Jean Burnett; Brothers and Sisters, Rufus Sanford, Ervin Sanford, Worthy Vernon Sanford, Edith, Arlon Otis Sanford, John Boyd (Jake) Sanford, Mertice Odell, Loniel Clayton Sanford, Aidron Henry Sanford, Brealon Allen Sanford, William Frank Sanford, Elroy Sanford, Ray Sanford. Survivors include, Daughters, Pauletta Mires of Center, Cheryl New of Center, Linda Shisler of Center.

Sarah J. Palmer, 81, of Deweyville, died March 8, 2011 in Port Arthur. Burial will be in Deweyville Cemetery, Deweyville, Texas. She was born May 29, 1929 in Center, Texas to John Wilburn and Isabell Eddings Wilburn. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Vernon Palmer; Nine Brothers and Sisters. Survivors include, Daughter, Norma Guidry of Deweyville; Son, Billy McMahon of Leakesville, Mississippi.

Shirley Mae Rayson Rogers, 63 of Center, died March 2, 2011 in Nacogdoches. Burial was in Walker Cemetery, Carthage, Texas. She was born September 24, 1947 in Panola County to Marvin Rayson and Suda Ramsey Rayson. She is preceded in death by, Parents; Four Brothers; One Sister. Survivors include, Husband, Thomas Rogers of Center; Daughter, Kim Rogers of Tyler; Brothers, David Rayson of Center, Joseph Rayson of Longstreet, Louisiana; Sisters, Katy Gardner & husband Tom of Shelbyville, Mary Alice Swindle of San Augustine.
