The Shelby County
Museum would like to announce their latest exhibit.
A ribbon cutting and open house will be held at 2:00 PM, April 9, 2009 for the Early Schools of Shelby County Exhibit. Mrs. Fannie Watson has done a great job gathering and displaying information she has acquired on the 90 plus school districts that existed in the early 1900’s. We would like to invite everyone who can to come by and read about the history of our early schools.

Bobby Jean Abernathy, 78, of McKinney, Texas (formerly of Center) died March 11, 2009. Burial was in Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. She was born July 17, 1930 in Center, Texas to Gaines Robert and Nancy Elizabeth Mosby. Bobby graduated from Center High School in 1947 as valedictorian of her class. She was preceded in death by, Brother, William “Bill” Mosby. Survivors include, Husband, Dave Abernathy, Jr. of McKinney; Daughters, Kim Ritchey of Prosper, Texas, Kelly Berry of Spring, Texas, Kay Sanders of Telephone, Texas; Son, Dave K. Abernathy of Gunter, Texas.

Gilbert Wheeler, 75 of Center, died March 21, 2009 at his home. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Shelby County. Gilbert Wheeler was born in Center on February 6, 1934 to Don Wheeler and Barksdale Tyer Wheeler. Preceded in death by, Parents. Survivors include, Wife, Kathryn Wheeler of Center; Daughters, Pam Hibbard of Tyler, Kathy Brittain of Center; Son Don Wheeler of Center; Sister, Juanice Powell of Shelbyville; Brother, Richard Wheeler of Ojai, CA.

Kristi Menefee, 47, died March 21, 2009. Burial was in White Rock Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born December 16, 1961 in Port Arthur, Texas to Luke and Pat Papania. Survivors include, Husband, Mark Menefee; Sons, Chris and Patrick Menefee; Daughter, Kalee Menefee; Parents, Luke and Pat Papania; Sisters, Vicki Greenslade, Karen Hall, Brothers, Ray Papania, Paul Papania, Mark Papania.

Ruben Goatcher, age 62, of Center, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Center. Due to Mr Goatcher's wishes he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
