The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker this month will be Mr. Leon Aldridge.  He will speak to us about our local paper, The Light and Champion, where he is the publisher, about other newspapers he has been involved with during his career and about the history of Shelby County's newspapers. Everyone is invited to attend.

Fred L. Johnson, 82, of Center, died March 26, 2015 at his residence. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born October 3, 1932 in Shelby County to Rev. Lewis Johnson and Trudy Gilchrist Johnson. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Loyce Johnson.  Survivors include, Daughters, Pam Sanford & husband, Darrell of Center, Karen Albert & husband, Darrell of Center; Sisters, Ura Lovell of Center, Vivian & Earl Campbell of Center.

DONALD YATES
Donald "Glenn" Yates, 57, died March 24, 2015, at his home in Channelview, Texas. He was born on December 18, 1957 in Harris County to Bernard and Mae Rose Yates. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Bonnie Garrison; Brothers, (Twins) James and John Yates, Darryl “Tooter” Yates. Penny Diane Hughes, 51, of Shelbyville, died March 28, 2015 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Strong Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born January 17, 1964 in Center to Gerel G. Goings and Judy Cassel Goings. She was preceded in death by, Brother, Flint Goings; Grandfather, Howell Cassel. Survivors include, Husband, Larry Jack Hughes of Shelbyville; Sons, Justin Hughes & wife, Elizabeth, of Shelbyville, Derek Hughes of Shelbyville; Parents, Gerel G. and Judy Goings of Shelbyville; Sister, Ginger White of Kentucky; Grandmother, Johnnie Cassel.

R. C. “Pete” “Buddy” Peterson, 76, of Summit, Mississippi, died March 25, 2015 in McComb, Mississippi. Interment was in McClelland Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born October 26, 1938 in Rockford, Illinois to Rudolph Ernest Peterson and Emily Hilda Vincik Peterson.
