The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 16, 2013 at 6:30 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be David Swanzy. He will speak about the Challenger Disaster and the Museum at Hemphill – a topic that is very close to home. Everyone is invited.

BEN HOOKER
Ben Hooker, 76, of Tenaha, died April 3, 2013 at his residence. Interment was in Woods Cemetery, Panola County. He was born April 19, 1936 in Tenaha to Marvin Hooker and Dixie Ruth Parker Hooker. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Carolyn Hooker of Tenaha; Daughters, Sharon Macioce & husband, Rob of The Woodlands, Shanon Sowell & husband, Johnny of Huntsville.

BILLY W. CUNNINGHAM
Billy W. Cunningham, 68, of Victoria, died April 5, 2013. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery, Center, Texas. He was born June 25, 1944, in DeKalb, Texas to Billie Crew and Joyce Smith Cunningham. Billy served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. WALTER JAMES HITT
Walter James “Bud” Hitt, 85, of Houston, Texas, died April 7, 2013 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born December 19, 1927 in Shelbyville, Texas, to Walter and Addie Hitt. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Lorene Lear Hitt; Brother, Charles “Slick” Hitt; Sisters, Era Jo Birdwell, Bernice Cassell, Verna “Honey” Mott, Claudia Sims. Survivors include, Son, Stephen Hitt & wife, Mary Margaret. Daughter, Sherri Diane Stamper; Wife, Mamie Hitt; Sister, Norma Lout. Mr. Hitt proudly served his country in the United States Army following World War II in Tokyo, Japan.
