Shelby County Museum is preparing for an exhibit to honor Shelby County Current Military and Veterans of Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, Afghanistan.  If you or have a relative that is serving in the Military.  Please supply a photo and info, (rank, parents/spouse name where served,  preferably in uniform and email, bring by or snail mail to the museum.   The exhibit will open on Friday May 26,  before Memorial Day.

PEOPLE LOOKING

        Looking for information on Louis\Lewis T. Watkins in Shelby or surrounding Counties.  The dates would be between 1805 South Carolina/Tennessee and Bet. July - August 1844 Shelby Co., Texas when he was murdered during "The Regulator-Moderator War " of Shelby Co., Texas.  His father's name was also Louis\Lewis Watkins.  His mother's name was probably Elizabeth (Polly) Freeman.  His wife's name was Elizabeth Gordon born July 25, 1813 in Maury Co., Tennessee.  Louis\Lewis and Elizabeth Gordon were married September 16, 1832 in St. Clair Co., Alabama.  email Ric Gordon, at gordonfinder@sbcglobal.net

TITUS MCLENDON
    Titus McLendon, 80, died April 12.2006.  Burial was in New Hope Cemetery, Timpson.  Born February 10, 1920, in Rusk, he was the son of Thomas and Bertha McLendon.  Mr. McLendon was preceded in death by his parents; son, Henry James; sisters, Gertrude McLendon and Cenola Yarbrough; brothers, Aldolphus, Cotrell, Hiawatha and John McLendon.  Survivors include daughters, Dinah Haffert of Garrison, Teresa Lane of Nacogdoches, Claudia Robertson of Garrison and Deborah Harris of Garland; sisters, Inez Yarbrough of Tyler, Beatrice Collins of Corsicana.  Community Funeral Home.
HENRY MAURICE "PAUL" NETTLES
    Henry Maurice "Paul" Nettles, 97, of Timpson died April 21, 2006 in Garrison.  Burial was in Corinth Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born October 27, 1908, in Deerfield, Louisiana, he was the son of James Merrill and Alice Valentine Nettles.  Mr. Nettles was a Millwright.  He was married to Clara "Dina" Capers Nettles, and she preceded him in death.  Survivors include son Harvey Albert Tipton of Timpson.  Taylor Funeral Home.
C. D. CARTWRIGHT
    C. D. Cartwright, 88, died April 9, 2006.  Burial was in Bennett Chapel Cemetery.  He was born January 18, 1918.  Mr. Cartwright was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Garrett; children, Henry Cartwright and Maxine Swindle; his parents and three sisters.  Survivors include children, Billy Cartwright, Lola Phillips, Gwendola Singh all of Center
FRANCES NELSON FOX
    Frances Nelson Fox, 92, of San Antonio died April 21, 2006 in San Antonio.  Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson.  Born September 25, 1913, in Mansfield, Louisiana, she was the daughter of U. S. and Fannie Williamson Nelson.  Mrs. Fox was a Secretary with Exxon.  She was married to James P. Fox and he preceded her in death.   Survivor includes brother, Joe Bill Nelson of Timpson.

EDWIN BROWN BOOTH
    Edwin Brown Booth, 93, of Timpson died April 24, 2006.  Cremation was requested.  The Fannie Brown Booth Library is named for the mother of Mr. Booth.  Survivors include sons, Thomas Brown Booth of New York and Edwin Fulton Booth of Crosby; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Bouchard of Illinois and Margarett Booth of Horseshoe Bay.  Taylor Funeral Home.

DOYLE WARR
    Doyle Warr, 92, of Center died April 24, 2006.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Born September 9, 1913, in Shelby County, he was the son of William R. and Minnie Fitts Warr.  Mr. Warr was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy.  He was married to Lynne Warr, and she preceded him in death.  Survivors include sons, Zack Warr of Center and Gregg Warr of Pottsboro.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
ARTIE B. FURLOW ALFORD
    Artie B. Furlow Alford, 82. of Huxley died April 24, 2006 at her residence.  Burial was in Strong Cemetery.  Born October 1, 1923, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Jenny McKenzie Miller.  Survivors include daughter, Shirley Fincher of Huxley; brother Larkin Miller of Austin.  Mangum Funeral Home.
DEAN CHAPMAN
    Dean Chapman, 82, of Eastland died April 22, 2006.  Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery, Shelby County.  Ms. Chapman was born April 27. 1923, in Timpson.  Survivors include son, Paul Chapman of Longview; daughter, Evelyn Grace of Rhome; brother, Denard Ramsey of Timpson.  Mangun Funeral Home.
GLENDA KILLEN
    Glenda Killen, 59, of the McClelland Community died April 24, 2006  Burial was in McClelland Cemetery.  Born July 11, 1946, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of George F. Killen, Jr. and Mary Lee Lovell Killen.  Survivors include mother, Mary Lee Killen of Shelbyville; sisters, Selma Bush and Jerrie Killen, both of Shelbyville; brother, Charles Killen of Shelbyville.   Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
HUBERT DAY
    Hubert Day, 75, of Lufkin died April 13, 2006, at his residence.  Burial was in White Rock Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born June 15, 1930, in Angelina County, he was the son of Luther O. and Mae Harvard Day.  Mr. Day was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.  Survivors include wife, Ollie Mae Day of Lufkin; son, Alan Dale Day of Lufkin; daughter Elizabeth Diane Taylor; son, Douglas Gene of Lufkin; sisters, Doris Newman of Orange, Barbara Jean Griffith and Mildred Turner, both of Huntington, Joyce Kervin of Orange; brothers, Herman Day  of Pasadena and Raymond Day of Dickerson, Harold Wayne Day of Huntington.  Gipson-Metcalf
DEAN RAYGRAIN LILLY
    Dean Raygrain Lilly, 42, of Timpson died April 25, 2006 in Nacogdoches.  Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  Born January 10, 1964, in Center, he was the son of Orren and Ailene Thompson Lilly.  Mr. Lilly was a Welder.  Survivors include mother, Ailene Lilly of Timpson; sons, Lance Lilly, Koyce Lilly and Tyler Lilly, all of San Antonio; brothers, David Lilly of Humble, Danny Lilly of Timpson and Dennis Lilly of Garrison; sister, Lulu Warren of Nacogdoches.  Taylor Funeral Home.
MARY ELIZABETH DEAN
    Mary Elizabeth Dean, 67, of Huxley died April 25, 2006, in Center.  Burial was in Blair Cemetery.   Born March 14, 1939, in Alabama, she was the daughter of Glen and Verna Walker Whitman.   Survivors include mother, Verna Lunsford of Huxley; sister, Ina Mae Andrusic of Huxley; brothers, Jerry Whitman of Liverpool and Bob Merrill of Houston; daughters, Kathy Emmert of Richards and Gayla Morgan of Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Mangum Funeral Home.
RENA CASSELL DUNCAN
    Rena Cassell Duncan, 95, formerly of Shelbyville, died April 25, 2006 in Decatur.  Burial was in Wimberly Rayburn Cemetery.  Born December 3, 1911, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Eli and Azlee Furlow Cassell.  Mrs. Duncan was married to William Issac Duncan, and he preceded her in death.  Survivors include 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
