"The 31st annual Leo and Ada McSwain Memorial Family Reunion will be held in Colmesneil Texas at the McSwain "lakehouse" on  Saturday, May 24, 2008.  This reunion was started in 1978 by the children of Leo and Ada McSwain and has been held in Colmesneil ever since. The living children of Leo and Ada are Norma George, Odell Hart, and E.C. McSwain. There will be family, food, pictures, and family info. On May 2:

In 1870, General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was accidentally wounded by his own men and died eight days later
In 1890, The Oklahoma Territory was organized.
In 1945, the Soviet Union announced the Fall of Berlin, and the Allies announced Surrender of Nazi troops in Italy and Austria.
In 1957, Sen. Joseph McCarthy, the controversial Republican from Wisconsin died in Maryland.
In 1957, Crime boss Frank Costello, survived an attempt on his life in New York: the alleged gunman Vincent "The Chis Ggante was acquitted .
In 1960, Caryl Chessman, became a best selling author while on death row; was executed at San Quentin in California.
 

OBITUARIES
ERA LOU GRAY RAMSEY
     Era Lou Gray Ramsey, 73, of Joaquin died April 26, 2008 at her residence.  Burial was in Lone Cedar Cemetery.  Born January 5, 1935, in Joaquin, she was the daughter of James Edison Gray and Bennye Oates Gray.  Survivors include Husband, James F. Ramsey of Joaquin; Brother, Tommy Gray of Joaquin; Sisters, Wanda Hamilton of Joaquin and Frances Coocker of Houston.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
ODIS TIDWELL
     Odis Tidwell, 87, of Center died April 25, 2008 at his residence.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Born October 13, 1920, in Guntersville, Alabama, he was the son of William Franklin Tidwell and Charlotte Roden Tidwell.  Mr. Tidwell was a WWII veteran, having served in North Africia, Italy and Austria.  He was a member of Sam Samford Lodge #148. He was preceded in death by Parents, William and Charlotte Tidwell; Daughter, Kathy Diamond; Brothers, Gene Tidwell, Ira Tidwell and Johnny Tidwell; Sisters, Lola Davis, Dorothy Whittlesey.  Survivors include Wife, Betty J. Tidwell of Center; Son Mark Tidwell of Center; Daughters, Suzanne Taylor of Colleyville, Texas and Kelli Carlton Vernon of Center.  Mangum Funeral Home.
BABY RUTH CRUMP
     Baby Ruth Crump, 94, of Deer Park, died April 25, 2008 in Deer Park.  Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born February 16, 1914, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Walter and Ruth Scoggins Cogburn.  Ms. Crump was preceded in death by Husband, Clyde Crump and Son, Stanley Joe Crump.  Survivors include Sons, Curtis Crump of Pasadena and Jimmy Frank Crump of Deer Park. Taylor Funeral Home.
HAZEL MARGARET ENGLISH VAUGHN
     Hazel Margaret English Vaughn, 91, died April 26, 2008 in Center.  Burial was in Strong Cemetery.   Born September 1, 1916, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Robert Fulton English and Sophia Della Raymond English.  Ms. Vaughn was preceded in death by Husband, "Jack" Vaughn; Son Darrell Vaughn.  Survivors include Sons, Marlie Vaughn of Huxley, Prentice Vaughn of Huxley, Robert Jerry Vaughn of Houston, Larry Vaughn of Huxley, Jack Vaughn of Huxley, Waylon Vaughn of Center and Gerald Vaughn of Huxley.  Watson & Son Funeral Home.
