The Shelby County Historical Society would like to invite everyone to come by and see our new exhibit at the museum.  It includes several quilts donated to the museum over the years along with quilts and other items loaned to us for this exhibit.  We even have a quilt in the frame to be quilted, so come by and try your hand at quilting.

OBITUARIES     


TOMMYE ANN MORRIS
Tommye Ann Morris, 77, died April 26, 2013 in Lakewood Colorado at Hospice of St. John. She was born January 26, 1936 in Center, Texas to Weldon Rudd and Johnnie Hammers. She was preceded in death by, Mother, Johnnie Golden; Father, Floyd Golden. Survivors include, Son, Ben Morris & wife, Kim of Littleton Colorado; Cousins, Dan Fleming of Shelbyville, Amy Berry of Austin, Angie Berry of Queens New York. She was a member of the Roughrider Class of 1953.
Cremation services are being handled by Gordon Funeral and Cremation Services Littleton, Colorado.
 
BILLY JOE NIXON
Billy Joe Nixon, 75, of Center, died April 20, 2013, at Shelby Regional Medical Center. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Shelby County. Survivors include, Daughter, Ruby Gaddis, Center; Granddaughter, Cassandra Nixon, Center; Great-Grandsons; Kamydric Glenn of Center, Zymarion Glenn of Center.

JOHNNY PIPES, JR.
Johnny Pipes Jr., 71, of Center, died April 26, 2013 at his residence. Interment was in White Rock Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born January 30, 1942 in Center to Johnny Pipes Sr. and Ruby Mae Rains Pipes. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Annie Pipes of Center; Sons, Jimmy Pipes & wife, Belinda of Martinsville, Jesse Pipes & wife, Priscilla of Timpson; Daughter, Janie Hoffman of San Augustine.

C. H. “Clyde” Lister, a longtime employee of Hicks Mortuary, died April 25, 2013, at Shelby Regional Hospital in Center. Interment will be in Rather Cemetery, Shelby County. Survivors include, Wife, Joy Etta Lister of Center, Texas; Son, Clyde (Barbara) Lister Jr. of The Colony, Texas; Sister, Odell (Booker) Colman of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Edward “Ed” M. Knapp, 59, of Cameron, Oklahoma, formerly of Center, Texas, died April 15, 2013 in Cameron, Oklahoma. Ed was born October 12, 1953 in Poughkeepsie, New York to Ethel & Elmer Knapp. Survivors include, Wife, Mary Knapp; Sons, Travis Knapp, Chris French; Daughters, Susan Knapp, Tonja Cox, Jennifer Robinson; Brothers, Elmer Knapp Jr. of Clinton Corners, New York, Mike Knapp of Stanfordville, New York; Sisters, Carol Knapp of Poughkeepsie, New York, Barbara Powell of Pine Plains, New York, Joyce Jeffords of Tampa, Florida, Lisa Elem of Poughkeepsie, New York.

Kenneth Luman, 59, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died April 28, 2013 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Mt. Herman Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born on Dec. 31, 1953, in Alameda, Calif., to Phines Elmer Luman and Gladys Wilson Luman. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Ima Odell Samford; Brothers, Rex Luman, Royce Luman, Ray Luman, Joe Luman, James Luman. Survivors include, Wife, Dawn Luman of Nacogdoches; Daughter, Lauren Rene Luman of Houston; Sons, William Joseph Luman of Nacogdoches, Jeremy Keith Hall; Sisters, Dorothy Adell Livingston of Center, Bonnie Sue Gann of Mississippi; Brother, Dewey Glenn Luman & wife, Patsy, of Cleveland; sister.
