SHELBY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING

The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 P.M. on May 17, 2011 at the Shelby County Museum.  The guest speaker this month will be Tem Morrison.  He will speak on the Caddo Indians and will demonstrate how the Indians made arrowheads from flint rock.  Everyone is invited.

TERRY RAYMOND BURCH
Terry Raymond Burch, 57 of Stanley Louisisana, died May 3, 2011 at his residence. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was born on July 12, 1953 in Orange, Texas to Troy and Emily Burch. He was preceded in death by, Father, Troy Burch. Alton Lee “John” McCarty, Sr., 50, of Houston, died April 25, 2011 in Houston. Burial was in Patroon Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born June 8, 1960 in Houston to Arthur Carl McCarty and Mattie Loucille Rayburn McCarty. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Daughters, Marla McCarty of Houston, Kimberly Wheeler & husband, Daniel of Katy, Tina Schwaab of Katy; Son, Lee McCarty of Houston; Sisters, Lucy Barrios of Houston, Laura Grace Clark of Houston; Brother, Charles Elton McCarty of Houston; Mother of his children, Beverly Ginther.

Charles H. Powdrill, 78, of Center, died April 28, 2011 at his home. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born October 19, 1932 in Shelby County to Truitt Powdrill and Maggie McNeese Powdrill. He served as a Military Policeman in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by, Wife, Ruth Powdrill; Son, Allen Powdrill; 10 Brothers & Sisters. Survivors include, Daughters, Peggy Woodfin & husband, Neil of Center, Daughter, Melissa Powdrill Bailey & husband, John of Center; Son, Mike Powdrill & wife, Sheila of Joaquin; Step Sister, Glenda Wallace of Center.
