Murray Pleasant, on Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Cove Springs Cemetery, near Melrose, Nacogdoches Co., Tx., at 5:00.  All Pleasant and allied cousins are invited to attend.  Their daughter Adeline Pleasant and her children lived in Center after 1890. Obituaries
ALVIN RAMEY
   Alvin Ramey, 77, of Lufkin died May 1, 2003 in Lufkin.  Burial was in Old Home Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born April 11, 1926, he was the son of Alton Jessie and Ida Mae Ross Ramey.  Mr. Ramey was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Ida Mae Ramey; sisters, Earline and Ada and brothers, Leo, Jimmy Lee and Clarence.  He is survived by brother, Alton Ramey, Jr. of Shreveport, Louisiana, Travis Ramey of Greenville and Earl Ramey of Garrison; sisters, Gladis Rickman of Terrell, Gladyis Barton of Tenaha, Pearlie Mae Webster of Pasadena, Juanita Watson of San Augustine, and Helen Martin of Dallas.  Garrison Funeral Home.
BEVERLY ANN WHITAKER
   Beverly Ann Whitaker, 75, of Center died May 5, 2003 in Nacogdoches.   Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.   Born October 5, 1927, in Shreveport, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Wilmer and Naomi Young Whitaker.   Ms. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents Wilmer and Naomi Young Whitaker.  She is survived by friends, Peggy Compton, Martha Compton, Jim Ann Taylor, Eddie Grimes and family and her dog.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
DOYCE STRICKLAND
   Doyce Lafitte Strickland, 63, died May 2, 2003 in Shreveport, Louisiana.   Burial was in Shreveport.  She was a native of Shelby County and former resident of Center.  Ms. Strickland was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Pearl Lafitte and brothers, Buddy and Bo Lafitte.  Ms. Strickland is survived by husband Joe Strickland of Shreveport; son, Gary Strickland of Keithville, Louisiana; daughter, Kathy Strickland Black of Ruston, Louisiana.  Rose-Neat Funeral Home.
DORIS JOY GUNTER COMPTON
   Doris Joy Compton, 72, of Goodrich died May 5, 2003 in Conroe.  Burial was in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Born December 11, 1930, in Garrison, she was the daughter of William and Lula May Farris Gunter.  Ms. Compton was married to Bernard Compton and he preceded her in death.   Survivors include sons, Gary Lee Compton of Segno and Dennis Compton of Goodrich; sisters, Fay Skelton of Garrison and Frances Beverly of Pasadena. BILLIE SUE MASK MARTIN
   Billie Sue Mask Martin, 74, of Katy died May 5, 2003.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center.  Born September 13, 1928, in Center, she was the daughter of Hollis and Irene Fitts Mask.   Ms. Martin is survived by her mother, Irene Fitts Powers of Bryan; daughter, Suzanne George of Martinsville; son John Scott Martin of Houston.  Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
EUGENE HAM
   Eugene Ham, 61, of Joaquin died May 5, 2003, in Shreveport, Louisiana.   Burial was in Willow Grove Cemetery.   Born November 13, 1941, in Minden, Louisiana, he was the son of Walter J. and Alma Yount Ham.  Mr. Ham is survived by his mother, Alma Ham of Livingston; sons, James E. Ham of Palestine, William J. Ham of Joaquin and Charles P. Ham of Hammond, Louisiana; daughter, Rebecca Ham Shatwell of Nacogdoches and Tong Thuy-Linh of Chantilly, Virginia; brothers, Johnny M. Brown of Livingston and W.J. Ham of Austin; sisters, Evelyn Smith and Ruby Reed, both of Livingston, and Barbara Gonzales of Houston.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
CHARLES EDWARD WILLIAMS
   Charles Edward Williams, 66, died April 27, 2003.  Burial was in Liberty Cemetery, Joaquin.  Born February 2, 1941, he was the son of Edmond Williams and Ida Mae Stephenson Williams.  Mr. Williams is survived by his sisters, Eddie Lee Williams and Earlene Polly, both of Joaquin; brothers, Leonard A Williams of Nacogdoches adn Hollis James Williams of Center.   Community Funeral Home.
