The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting May 17, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street.  Our guest speaker this month will be Connie Mettauer.  She will speak to us about "The Murder of Marlie Childs."   This murder took place on Fields Street here in Center, Texas.  Connie knows this subject very well as she once lived in this house on Fields Street.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Michele Kay “Shelly” Hebert, 56, of Timpson, Texas, died May 5, 2016 in Longview, Texas. Interment was in H & H Family Cemetery. She was born on July 23, 1959 in Los Angeles, California to Clyde T. Smith and Etta Jo Cromwell Smith. Shelly was a dedicated police officer in Dayton, Texas for Liberty County. Her badge was actually the first woman’s badge in the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. She was preceded in death by, Brother, Brodrick Eugene Bassham. Survivors include, Husband, James Hebert of Timpson, Texas; Parents, Clyde T. Smith and Etta Jo Cromwell Smith of Somerville, Texas; Brother, Mackey Smith & wife, Deborah of Humble, Texas; Sisters, Niccola Bilski & husband, Danny of Brenham, Texas, Neoma Hickman & husband, Rick of Somerville, Texas.

Jerry Cunningham, 73, of Center, died May 10, 2016 at Holiday Nursing Home. Interment will be in Brookside Memorial Park, Houston, Texas. He was born October 31, 1942 in Grapeland, Texas to Earnest Cunningham and Gladys Beeson Smith. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother & Sister-in-law, Jim & Joyce Cunningham; Sisters, Joann Baker, Carlyn Brown. Survivors include, Niece, Brenda Alford & husband, Keith of Center.
