Obituaries
HORTENSE FLEMING
   Hortense Fleming, 87, of Lufkin died May 3, 2005, in Lufkin.  Burial was in Strong Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born February 5, 1918, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Avery Parm and Jewell Odessa Dockins, Oswalt.  Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Fleming; sons, Doug and Mark Fleming; sister, Lurlean Miller.  Survivors include son T. Frank Feming of Lufkin; daughter, Karen Matthews of Lufkin and Darlyene Westberg of Wichita, Kansas.  Carroway- Claybar Funeral Home.
HAPPY LAWSON
  Happy Lawson, 76, of Crosby died May 2, 2005.  Burial was in Antioch Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born June 21, 1928, in Center, he was the son of Hobson and Lela Jones Lawson.  Mr. Lawson was a WWII veteran.  He is preceded in death by sister, Mildren Partlow and brothers, Joel Lawson and Glen Lawson.  Survivors include wife, Leona Lawson of Crosby; daughters, Mary Jane Parker of Baytown, Carol Emanis of Weimer; sisters, Oleta Cockrell of Joaquin, Ruby Hughes and Judy Carrington, both of Center; brothers, Billy Lawson, Forest Lawson and Tommy Lawson all of Center.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
BETTYE SUE METCALF
   Bettye Sue Metcalf, 74, of Joaquin died May 3, 2005 in Center.  Burial was in Johnson Cemetery,  Born August 29, 1930, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Jack Johnson and Gay Hanson Johnson.  Mrs. Metcalf was preceded in death by her husband Bert Metcalf.  Survivors include Daughters, Barbara Bohannon and Vicki Metcalf, both of Joaquin. 
DARLINE MILLER
   Darline Miller, 49, of Joaquin died May 2, 2005 in Center.  Burial was in Jackson Cemetery.  Born July 25, 1955, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Walter E. Russell and Faye Black Russell.  Mrs. Miller is survived by husband Jackie Miller; son, Ricky Miller; daughter, Angie Miller all of Joaquin; sister, Gail Scruggs of Keithville, Louisiana; brothers, Connor Russell of Florida, Don Russell and Steve Russell both of Joaquin.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
MIKE KILPATRICK
   Mike Kilpatrick, 56, of Timpson died May 10, 2005 in Nacogdoches.  Cremation was requested.  Born November 4, 1948, in Houston, he was the son of Arthur Bearl Kilpatrick, Jr. and Alice Bernice Steven Kilpatrick.  Survivors include son Billy Death and daughter, Crystal Ann Dean.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home
LEON SHILLINGS
   Leon Shillings, 84, of Shelby County died May 8, 2005 in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Burial was in Sardis Cemtery.  Born October 15, 1920, in Shelby County, he was the son of Walter Leon and Lena Mae Bridges Shillings.  Mr. Shillings served in U.S. Army, WWII and served as sheriff from 1960 to 1968.  He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lena Mae Shillings.  Survivors include wife Nelda Shillings of Center; daughter, Wendy Williams of Broadus and Cheryl Parker of Center; son, Leon Shillings, Jr. of Center.  Mangum Funeral Home.
NORMA SMITH
  Norma Smith, 92, of Shelbyville, died May 5, 2005 in Center.  Born September 22, 1912, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Sam and Velma Alford Helpinstill.  Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Smith; brother, Max B. Helpinstill.  Survivors include a host of friends and relatives.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
KEVIN GRAY
   Kevin Gray, 31, of Memphis, Tennessee died May 10, 2005, in Memphis.  Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born December 24, 1973, in Logansport, Louisiana, he was the son of Percy Jim Gray and Paula Windham Powledge.  He was a Navy veteran, having served in the Persian Gulf War.  Survivors include brother, Jeff Gray of Houston and Jim Gray of Dallas; grandparents, Lillian McClaun and John of Center.  Mangum Funeral Home
