Murray Pleasant, on Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Cove Springs Cemetery, near Melrose, Nacogdoches Co., Tx., at 5:00.  All Pleasant and allied cousins are invited to attend.  Their daughter Adeline Pleasant and her children lived in Center after 1890. J.C. SHILLINGS, JR.
   J.C. Shillings, Jr., 85, of Center died May 8, 2003 in Nacogdoches.   Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.  Born in Shelby County, he was the son of J.C. Shillings, Sr. and Isabel Bell Shillings. He was married to Mozell Shillings and he preceded him in death.  Survivors include daughters, Sue Hutto of Center and Judy LaFitte of Houston; Sisters, Brooksie Bradberry and Billie Swain, both of Center, and Ruth Oliver of LaMarque; brother, Furman Shillings of Orange.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
JOSEPH HAROLD ROWE
   Joseph Harold Rowe, 83, of Center died May 7, 2003 in Shelby Regional.   Burial was in Old Center Cemetery, Panola County.  Born March 8, 1920, in Shelby County, he was the son of Henry Harold and Fannie Oats Rowe.  Survivors include son, Joseph F. Rowe of Center; daughters, Carole Rowe DeBender and Mary Rowe Lopez, both of Houston; Brothers, Byron Rowe and Willis Rowe, both of The Old Center Community.  Mangum Funeral Home.
MELBA CROUCH
   Melba Crouch, 78, of Center died May 10, 2003 in Center. Burial was in Newburn Cemetery.  Born February 22, 1925, in Angelina County, she was the daughter of Robert Ivy and Florene Thorton Ivy.  Ms. Crouch was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Crouch and daughter, Judy Wilson.   Survivors include sons Mike Crouch, Melvin Crouch, both of Center and Jacks Wilson of San Diego, California; daughters Mellissa Crouch and Linda Yarborough, both of Center.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
LEONARD E. ANDERSON, JR.
   Leonard E. Anderson, Jr., 70, of Whitehouse died May 11, 2003 in Tyler. Burial was in Neuville Cemetery, Shelby County.   Born July 16, 1932, in Noble, Louisiana, he was the son of Leonard Elton Anderson, Sr. and Rachel Oliver Anderson.  Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife Dorothy Anderson of White house; sons, Carrol Lee Anderson of Duson, Louisiana, Bobby Lynn Anderson and Michael Joe Anderson, both of Scott, Louisiana and Terry Glenn Anderson of Hudson, New Hampshire; brothers, Hubert Anderson of Center and Charles Anderson of Colmesneil; sisters, Mary Ellen Harris of Gladewater, Reather Samlley of Mississippi and Arlene Bruton of Colmesneil.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home
SARA RUTH GUILFORD
   Sara Ruth Guilford, 82, of the Patroon Community died may 12, 2003 in Center.   Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Florida.  Born March 19, 1921, in Florence Alabama, she was the daughter of John Percy and Elsie Ruth Cheek.   Ms. Guilford was married 1st to John J. Wickliff and then to Harvey Talmadge Guilford; both preceded her in death.  Survivors include sons, John J. Wickliff, Jr. of Orlando, Florida and Ronald Dean Wickliff of Coco Beach, Florida; daughters, Sandra Ruth McGlashan and Merle Jane Wickliff, both of San Augustine, Carolyn Yaushua of Dayton Beach, Florida and Diane Cox of Shelbyville.  Mangum Funeral Home. 
KATHRYN ALEXANDER WHELESS
   Kathryn Wheless, 72, of Logansport, Louisiana, died May 7. 2003 at her residence.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Shelby County.  Born May 27, 1930, she was the daughter of Jeff and Mary Alexander.  Ms. Wheless was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde S. Wheless; parents Jeff and Mary Alexander; sisters, Christine Keels of Logansport, Louisiana and Florine Jones of Houston.  Survivors include sons, Ronnie Wheless, Sr. of Tylertown, Mississippi and Hal Wheless of Conroe; daughters, Sandra Boles of Center, Deborah Rogers of Logansport, Louisiana, Kathy Tomason of Logansport and Starla Rodgers of Joaquin; brother Earnest Alexander of Houston; sisters, Mary Gaston of Shreveport, Faye Bates and Margaret Lowe, both of Logansport, Louisiana.
UZETTA MAY HICKS
   Uzetta May Hicks, 76, of Center died May 13, 2003.  Burial was in Ramah Cemetery.  Ms. Hicks was born April 16, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn.  She was married to Leonard Hicks and he preceded her in death.  Survivors include daughters, Sharon Cockrell of Center and Sandra Davis of Tenaha; sons, Donald Hicks of Tenaha, Gary Wayne Hicks of Little Rock, Arkansas and Leonard Leslie Hicks, Jr. of California. CHARLES G. BALLARD
   Charles G. "Buster" Ballard, 65, of Cold Springs died May 12, 2003 at his residence.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Born April 24, 1938, in Center, he was the son of Waymon and Effie Wheeler Ballard.  Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Era Jo Henry Ballard of Cold Springs; sons, D.r Charles Christopher Ballard of Kingwood and Mark Allen Ballard of Pasadena; daughter, Melissa Ann Scroggins of Lake Dallas; brothers, Robert Ballard of Livingston and Johnny Ballard of Pasadena; sisters, Barbara Calderon and Virginia Sue Helms, both of Houston.  Mangum Funeral Home.
