Like to hear about Shelby County, especially Joaquin! I was born in Joaquin, as well as my brothers and sisters. My father, Jessie E. Thomas moved to Joaquin with his family in 1895 and lived there until the waning years of his life. He loved Joaquin! My grandfather, Jacob Ezekiel Thomas, came to Shelby County sometime in this era, I guess? He married My grandmother, Jesse Whitlock, near Hunter community on the Louisiana side of the Sabine river in 1895 and moved to Joaquin the same year. If anyone knows where he was born and family connections, I would appreciate knowing them.  Herschel Thomas

Family reunion for descendants of Jefferson Davis Hairgrove and Mary Tempie Corley Hairgrove.  This year our covered-dish get-together has been set for Saturday, June 3rd, 2006.  The location will be in the facilities of the First Assembly of God Church in Lufkin, TX.  If you need directions, please contact Sheryl Gallier at sheryl.gallier@sbcglobal.net or Mary Ann Foster at maf@inu.net .  The facilities will accommodate our family with plenty of tables and chairs.  There is a kitchen with a commercial stove so we will be able to heat dishes as needed. You will not need to bring paper plates, cutlery, cups, napkins or ice. These will be provided along with cold drinks, tea and coffee.  Lois Corry is the oldest living relative of Jefferson Davis and Mary Tempie Hairgrove, being their granddaughter.  She will be celebrating her 93rd birthday on May 31st, 2006, and we plan to observe her birthday during our reunion by having a special birthday cake.  No gifts are requested, but we would appreciate birthday cards for her.  Hope to see y'all there!
