The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting September 17, 2013 at 6:30 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be Dr. Gerald Edwards with the Baptist Retreat located on F. M. 138.  He will be telling about the work that is going on there.   Everyone is invited.

Rachel Fountain, 88, of Center, died August 29, 2013 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Interment was in Old Salem Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born August 18, 1925 in San Augustine County, Texas to James Dewey and Eva Mae Thacker Brown. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Homer “Jack” Fountain; Son, Homer Fountain, Jr.; Daughters-in-law, Jana Fountain & Wanda Coats; Brother, J. D. Brown; Sister, Lillian McSwain. Survivors include, Son, Jackie Lee Fountain & wife, Teena of Joaquin; Brother, Howard Brown & wife, Judy of Paradise Valley, Arizona; Sister, Ruth Armand of Spring, Texas; Son-in-law, Jeff Coats of Center.

Billy Clayton Warr, 69, of Tupman, California, died August 31, 2013 at his home. Interment was in Shafter Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California. J. J. VOTAW
J. J. Votaw, 91, died August 29, 2013. Interment was in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born April 22, 1922 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to John J. and Venetta Broughton Votaw. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII being awarded the Good Conduct Medal, three Overseas Service Bars, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the American Theatre Service Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Siblings. Survivors include, Wife, Juanel Grant; Children, Bob Holliday (Marsha), Susan Votaw Burson (Stanley), John L. Votaw (Annette Peters)
