The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting September 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be Colleen Doggett.  Everyone is invited to attend.


A. C. “Jake” Jacobs, 93, of Huxley, died September 4, 2014 at Memorial Health Systems of East Texas in San Augustine. Interment was in Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. He was born May 5, 1921 in Kaufman County, Texas to Tom and Minnie Cantrell Jacobs. He served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Kate Jacobs; Brothers & Sister, Marvin Jacobs, Slim Jacobs, Della Lee Edwards. Survivors include, Children, Jeanie Bryant & husband, Scott of Cleveland, Susan Valentine & husband, Jack of Horseshoe Bay, Ronny Jacobs & wife, Sandra of Houston, Penny Jacobs Lightfoot & husband, Larry of Columbus; Brother, Billy Dean Jacobs of Terrell; Sister, Murlene Griggs of Canton; Sisters-in-law, Vaydene Hamm of Paris, Frances Via of Beaumont.

Rev. Douglas Keifer McDonald, 81, of Timpson, Texas, died September 5, 2014, at his home in Timpson. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson. He was born August 1, 1933, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to Ollie D. and Maud Smith McDonald. He served as the mayor of Timpson from 1998 until 2010. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, Doy, Eloy, Norman McDonald. Survivors include, Wife, Sarah McDonald of Timpson; Sons, Douglas Roy McDonald & wife, Aretta of Overton, Texas, Jim McDonald & wife, Tammy of Timpson, Tim McDonald & wife, Misty of Timpson; Aunt, Effie Edwards of Timpson.

Walton Beach, Florida, Ted (Pat) Dent of Nacogdoches, Texas; Children, W. Ronnie Nathenial. Britton, 71, of Timpson, Texas, died September 8, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Interment was in Old Center Cemetery. He was born January 7, 1943 in Shelby County, Texas to Garland and Bertie Mae Harris Britton. Ronnie graduated from Timpson High School in 1962. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include, Wife, Debbra Britton of Timpson; Mother, Bertie Mae Britton of Timpson, Mother-in-law & Father-in-law, C. W. and Lucille Fields of Antioch; Brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Larry and Sarah Fields of Carthage.

Dovie Anderson Perry, 95, of Tyler, died September 01, 2014 in Tyler. Interment was in Smith Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born August 17, 1919 in Joaquin to Joseph Thomas and Thannie Jones Anderson. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Alice Hanson; Daughter, Johnnie Moore; Son, Donald Perry. Survivors include, Daughters, Fay Hines & husband, David of Longview, Jean Gammon of Tyler, Deborah Chambliss & husband, Clovis of Bullard; Sisters, Mary McFadden & husband, Forest of Tyler, Betty Davidson of Santa Rosa, California; Son-in-law, John Moore of Tatum; Daughter-in-law, Debra Perry of Joaquin.
