Brady School Reunion at the Community House...All friends and relatives are invited to our Brady School Reunion on October 4, 2003 at 9:00AM.  Bring pictures and memos from the past and present and enjoy just visiting.  We hope to have two of our previous teachers present.

Center High School Homecoming Events
September 19th - 20th, 2003

Homecoming parade will begin at 4:00PM on September 20, 2003. Floats will line up on Malone Drive at 3:30PM. Walking participants will line up at Methodist Church on Porter Street.

Alumni meeting will be held at the New High School Cafetorium on September 20, 2003, at 10:30 AM.

Class 1929 will meet at Golden Corral, September 20, 2003 at 6-9PM

Class of 1934 will meet at Ozro Bush Home, 100 Sanders St. September 20, 2003 at 12 Noon. 69th Year.

Class of 1936 will meet at Isaac's Restaurant, 202 Tenaha Street at 6:00PM on September 20, 2003.

Class of 1938 will meet at Pizzeria, 225 San Augustine St. from 11:30AM until 1:30PM on September 20, 2003. This is the 65 year reunion.

Class of 1940 will meet at Lake Country Inn Restaurant, at 9:00AM Breakfast on September 20, 2003.

Class of 1942 will meet at Pickles and Petunias Eatery, 510 Shelbyville Street at 1:30PM September 20, 2003.

Class of 1945 and 1946 will meet at Golden Corral at 11:30AM, September 20, 2003.

Classes 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950 will meet at the new Shelby County Courthouse Community Room at 7:00PM on September 20, 2003.    Class 48-- 55th Year.

 

Class of 1956 will meet for our monthly luncheon at Pickles and Petunias Eatery, 510 Shelbyville Street at 11:30AM on September 20, 2003.   This meeting has been moved from the first Tuesday of the month to coincide with Homecoming 2003

Class of 1958 will meet at Lake Country Inn September 20th, at 7PM for their 45 Year.

Class of 1967 will meet at Pickles and Petunias Eatery, 510 Shelbyville Street at 6:30PM on September 20, 2003. The Class invite Classes of 1966 and 1968 to join in.

Class of 1978 will meet at Ihlo Farm on Airport Road, on September 20, 2003.  Cost is $25 person.  Contact jhairgrove@qzip.net for additional information.

Class of 1983 will gather at the Homecoming Game Friday, September 19, 2003.  This is the 20th year.

Class of 1988 will meet at Lamar School Building on Upper Arcadia Road, on September 20th, at 7PM, for their 15th year.

Obituaries
JIMMY M. BAILEY
   Jimmy M. Bailey, 65, of Center died September 12, 2003 in Nacogdoches.   Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Born October 10, 1937, in Waterman Community, he was the son of John Harvey and Nettie Odie Grace Bailey.  Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Betty Raye Bailey of Center; daughters, Larenda McDonald and Rhoda Warr, both of Center, Renea Rich and Inette O'Neal, both of Nacogdoches and Marla Coy of Rockwall; sister, Dora Jean Livingston of Pasadena; brothers, Pete Bailey of Center, Hoyt Bailey of Livingston and Billy Bailey of Nacogdoches.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
RUBY BRITTAIN CRUMP
   Ruby Brittain Crump, 91, of Timpson died September 13, 2003 in Nacogdoches.   Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery.  Born November 13, 1911, in Timpson, she was the daughter of Felix Modrell and Ida Sapp Brittain,  Ms. Crump is survived by sister Nancy Lucille Decker of Timpson.  Taylor Funeral Home.
BERTHA B. SMITH
   Bertha B. Smith, 92, of Joaquin died September 15, 2003 in Center.   Burial was in Johnson Cemetery, Shelby County.  Born April 22, 1911, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Alfonzo and Hester Harvey Swan.  Ms. Smith was married to Raymond Smith, and he preceded her in death.  Survivors include Daughters, Dessie Kale, Dorothy Lawn and Deva Mason, all of Joaquin; sister, Joy Irish of Conroe; brother, Wayne Swan of Joaquin.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
MERRIAN WHARTON
   Merrian Wharton, 90, of Moody, formerly of Timpson, died September 13, 2003.   Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.   Born September 28, 1912, in Timpson, she was the daughter of Solomon Edward and Estill Ferguson McLeroy.  Ms. Wharton was preceded in death by husband John Cecil Wharton, Sr; son, John Cecil Wharton, Jr. Survivors include sons, George Frederick Wharton of Gary, David Edward Wharton of Rayburn; daughters, Cecilla Janet Erlund of Moody and Merrie Ann Norris of Longview.  Taylor Funeral Home.
ELIZABETH HINTON
   Elizabeth Hinton, 92, of Joaquin died September 16, 2003 in San Augustine.   Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery. Born September 22, 1910, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Ernest Sojourner and Fannie Melton.  Ms. Hinton is survived by son, Bobby Hinton of Groves; daughters, Joyce Barton of Nacogdoches, Christ Arndt of Trinity and Jean Collum of Beaumont.  Mangum Funeral Home.
LORENE SCRUGGS
   Lorene Scruggs, 84, of Joaquin died September 17, 2003 in Center.   Burial was in Sholar Cemetery.  Born November 20, 1918, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Ernest and Johnnie Lilly Cockrell.  Mrs. Scruggs was married to Hervey Norris Scruggs, and he preceded her in death.  Survivors include daughter, Ann Cammack of Minden, Louisiana; son, Jimmy Ray Scruggs of Joaquin; brother, Jerry Cockrell of Joaquin.  Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
THE REV. LEWIS JOHNSON
   The Rev. Lewis Johnson, 99, of Center died September 18, 2003.  Burial was in Mt. Herman Cemetery.  Born December 7, 1904, in Shelby County, he was the son of Oliver and Katie Richie Johnson.  Rev. Johnson was married to Trudie Johnson, and she preceded him in death.  Survivors include daughter, Ura Lovell and Vivian Campbell of Center; son, Fred Johnson of Center.   Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
LACIE MARIE COOPER
   Lacie Marie Cooper, 1 month, died September 17, 2003 in Center.  Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Born August 15, 2003, in Nacogdoches, she was the daughter of Louie and Christy Glaze Cooper.   Survivors include parents, Louie and Christy Glaze Cooper; sisters, Macayla Williford and Lainee  Cooper, both of Center;  Mangum Funeral Home.
