LT. COL. CARLOS LEE FOX, SR.
Lt. Col. Carlos Lee Fox, Sr., USAF Retired, 86, of Center, died October 10, 2009 at his home. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center. He was born February 20, 1923 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Carl James Fox and Lucille Lee Miller Fox. Col. Fox was retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Col. Fox began his military career in the Army air Corps with pilot training on the biplane and ended with the Space Shuttle Progam (1951-1974). Through his career, Col. Fox received numerous medals including American Campaign Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Expeditionary Service Award, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Son, Ted Fox; Sisters, Martha Beckwith, Peggy Evans. Survivors include, Wife, Cathy Fox of Center; Sons, Mike Fox and wife Angi of Pearland, Texas, Carlos Lee Fox, Jr. & wife Alyssa of Stafford, Texas; Daughters, Brenda Lee Hemry and husband Don of Oakhurst, California, Kay Simas and husband Robert of Ahwahnee, California, Carole Newgent and husband Steve of Kissimmee, Florida, Tradie Galindo and husband Ben of Granbury, Texas; Brothers, Carl James Fox, Jr. and wife Hildie of Sebring, Florida, Joseph Fox and wife Audria of Battle Creek, Michigan; Sister, Barbara Smith and husband Gilbert of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Adopted Son, Luis Salazar and wife Wendy of Center.

STEVE HUGHES
Steve Hughes, 58, of Joaquin, died October 11, 2009 in Shreveport, La. Burial was in Sholar Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born June 25, 1951 in Orange to Frank Hughes and Betty Crump Hughes. Mr. Hughes has been the mayor of Joaquin for many years. He was preceded in death by, Mother, Betty Rippy; Father, Frank Hughes. TOMMIE ITASCA STEWARD
Tommie Itasca Steward, 105, of Center, died October 8, 2009 in Center. At her request, she was cremated and a private memorial will be held in Marlow, Oklahoma at a later date. She was born February 18, 1904 in Josephine, Texas to James Thornton Henson and Sally Ann Harper Henson. She was preceded in death by, Husband, Sedric Steward; Son, Billy Leon Steward. Survivors include, Daughter, Pauline Lorah of Center; Son, Tommy Neal Steward of Berlin, Germany.

ARVEL PATE
Arvel Pate, 88, of Timpson, Texas, died October 6, 2009 in Center. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born December 3, 1920, in Center, Texas, to Willie and Ida Powdrill Pate. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was awarded numerous combat medals for his service in Normandy, France and Germany, and was a POW during the European campaign. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Son, Michael Eugene Pate. Jerry Lynn Collum, age 62 of Tenaha, died October 14, 2009 in Lufkin, Texas. Burial will be in Campti Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born October 16, 1946 in Shelby County to parents, P.A. & Vertie Ione Holt Collum. He was preceded in death by, Parents.
