Milton Irish Descendants Gather at San Jacinto Monument
Submitted by Charlotte King
GG-Granddaughter of Milton Irish

On Saturday October 5, 2013, the descendants of Milton Irish, a soldier in the war for Texas Independence, gathered at the San Jacinto Monument in Deer Park, Texas. They were 81 descendants strong and were there to view a Land Grant, issued to Milton Irish for his service in 1835-1836 in the Texian Army. This land grant was signed by Anson Jones, President of Texas, in 1846. This land grant was for 1/3 league of land which is located west of Center, Texas. Milton signed the Convention Memorial, fought at the Siege of Bexar, was a survivor of the Goliad Massacre and was issued several land grants for his service. This particular instrument was donated to the San Jacinto Monument in 1951 by his Grandson, Rouser L. Irish. After viewing the document, the family went into the theatre and a short program was given by Lisa Struthers, a librarian at the Monument. Jack Irish, Great-Grandson gave an explanation of Milton’s service and Lyn Irish, a GG-Grandson gave more information. Milton Irish died in California in 1870.  After the program at the Monument, everyone went to the Monument Inn for a great meal and more visitation. A special thanks to the employees of the San Jacinto Monument for their help in planning this event. Another special thanks to the Monument Inn for the good service and great food for so many people at once.
