The Shelby County Historical Society will hold a meeting on January 16, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.  The speaker will be David Swanzy.  The topic will be "LA SALLE EXPEDITION INTO SHELBY COUNTY (APRIL, 1687.)  We hope to see everyone there.

Gilbert Link, 75, of Center, died December 15, 2011 at his residence. Interment was in Link Family Cemetery, Palestine, Texas. He was born in Tennessee Colony, Texas on May 25, 1936 to Otha Link and Lydia Fischer Link. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, Daniel Link. Survivors include, Wife, Odessa Hightower Link of Center; Son, Keith Link of Center; Daughter, Jolene Link Burns of Katy; Sisters, Mary Nell Kirby of Jacksonville,

Melba Elene Barnett, 79, of the Logan Community, died December 17, 2011 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Smith Cemetery, Shelby County. Melba Elene Hallmark Barnett was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to James Edward and Susan Safrona Cooksey Hallmark. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husbands, Ramon Fry and Denson Barnett; Daughter, Jan Lee; Brothers, Herman Hallmark, Arlin Hallmark, and Elbert Ray Hallmark; Sister, Pauline Wilson. Emmett Eugene Darnell, 80, of Nederland, Texas, died December 01, 2011 in Beaumont, Texas. Interment was in Memory Gardens of Jefferson County Cemetery, Nederland. He was born February 08, 1931, in Timpson, Texas to Archie Milburn and Ina Mae Driggers Darnell. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Katherine Darnell of Nederland; Daughter, Brenda Macha & husband, Danny of Nederland; Sisters, Esther Marie Harvey of Timpson and Edna Merle Dean of Humble.
