The Shelby County Historical Society will hold a meeting on January 16, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.  The speaker will be David Swanzy.  The topic will be "LA SALLE EXPEDITION INTO SHELBY COUNTY (APRIL, 1687.)  We hope to see everyone there.





Gilbert Link, 75, of Center, died December 15, 2011 at his residence. Interment was in Link Family Cemetery, Palestine, Texas. He was born in Tennessee Colony, Texas on May 25, 1936 to Otha Link and Lydia Fischer Link. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, Daniel Link. Survivors include, Wife, Odessa Hightower Link of Center; Son, Keith Link of Center; Daughter, Jolene Link Burns of Katy; Sisters, Mary Nell Kirby of Jacksonville,
Sandra Ham & husband, Mark of Tennessee Colony; Sister-in-law, Gina Link Gingrich & husband, Bob of Palestine.

Gregory Mack Luman, 49, of Nacogdoches, Texas died December 15, 2011 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Mt. Herman Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born on February 8, 1962, in Center, Texas to Doyle and Billie Frances Porter Luman. Survivors include, Parents, Doyle and Billie Luman of Nacogdoches; Sister, Selina Luman of Nacogdoches.

Melba Elene Barnett, 79, of the Logan Community, died December 17, 2011 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Smith Cemetery, Shelby County. Melba Elene Hallmark Barnett was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to James Edward and Susan Safrona Cooksey Hallmark. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husbands, Ramon Fry and Denson Barnett; Daughter, Jan Lee; Brothers, Herman Hallmark, Arlin Hallmark, and Elbert Ray Hallmark; Sister, Pauline Wilson. Survivors include, Daughters, Sue Hargrove of Nacogdoches, Texas, Sharon Kabrich of Porter, Texas, Janene Walker of Shelbyville, Texas, Valerie Pina of Kingwood, Texas, Lana Millwood of Longview, Texas, Judy Cook of El Salvador, Pat Coots of Little Rock, Arkansas, Peaches Hearn of Diane, Texas, June Edwards of Longview, Texas, and Denise Lang of Chandler, Texas; Brothers, Jack Hallmark of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Joe Hallmark of Austin, Texas, and Jim Hallmark of Stonewall, Oklahoma; Sister, Linda Ainsworth of Ada, Oklahoma.

Emmett Eugene Darnell, 80, of Nederland, Texas, died December 01, 2011 in Beaumont, Texas. Interment was in Memory Gardens of Jefferson County Cemetery, Nederland. He was born February 08, 1931, in Timpson, Texas to Archie Milburn and Ina Mae Driggers Darnell. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents. She was born June 16, 1924 in Center, Texas to Eli Fults and Sallie Wilkerson Fults. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Grady Elliott; 3 Brothers; 1 Sister. Survivors include, Sons, J.C. Elliott of Bastrop, Texas, Homer Elliott & wife, Kyle of Pasadena, Texas and Gilbert Elliott of Garrison, Texas; Daughter, Sally Courtney of Beckville, Texas.

Survivors include, Husband, Harold Clay of Lake Jackson, Texas; Son, Jeffery Clay of Lake Jackson; Daughters, Debbie Klatt and Lisa Chapman, both of Lake Jackson; Sister, Sue Milford Belflower & husband, Steve of Laneville, Texas; Daughter-in-law, Belinda Clay of Loganville, Georgia.
