Shelby County Texas - 1850 Census

 


        These records were transcribed from information in the records of Shelby County Historical Society and publication of Ericson Books.  The census was taken September 9, 1850.  Please note that the records for the name SARAH, MATILDA, DELILA and MARTHA were recorded with a "Y" at end of name rather than the "H" or "A" and the name MARGARET was spelled Margret.  . There were 560 Households in Shelby County in  the 1850 Census.  The population of Shelby County was approximately 1,280 and there were probably less than 50 Head of Households born in the state of Texas: the majority of  immigrants came from Tennessee, Alabama and the Carolinas.  The census did not include the Black Families of the County.
