The consolidation of Truit Lodge No. 149 and Sam Samford Lodge No. 243 in 1869 by action of the Grad Lodge of Texas as Sam Samford Lodge No. 149, meant that new and stronger Lodge was created in Shelby County. There were several underlying factors in the consolidation of the two Losges, friction arose between the two over the matter of financial claim which Brother Samuel Samford had against Truit Lodge. The claim amounted to nineteen dollars, which included nine dollars for services as secretary and ten dollars for services as Grand Lecturer. With the creation of the town of Center as the new County seat in 1866, and since the Lodges had been weakened by the Civil War, a petition was presented to the Grand Annual Communication in June, 1869.
