                The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 17, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. Our guest speaker this month will be Terri Lacher, a local researcher.  She will be speaking to us about the World War II German Prison Camp in Center.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Travis Lee Johnson, 91, of Center, died March 21, 2018, in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born April 20, 1926, in Shelby County, to E. C. Johnson and Tinnie Windham Johnson. He served his country in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, J. T. Johnson; Son-in-law, Fern Jernigan, Sr.; Daughter-in-law, Debbie Johnson. Survivors include, Wife, Geraldine Johnson of Center; Children, Eva Johnson Terry of Longview, Vivian Johnson Ford & husband, Bill, of Center, Lewis Johnson & wife, Connie, of Tenaha, Glenn Johnson & wife, Teresa, of Shelbyville; Brother, James E. Johnson of San Augustine.

Leoma Powers Neill, 91, of Timpson, Texas, died March 26, 2017 in Garrison. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born on June 24, 1926 in Garrison, Texas to John Powers and Rosie Hutto Powers. She was preceded in death by, Husband, James “Goat” Neill; Daughter, Bobbie Lynn Carlton; Son, James Hopkins, Sr., Brother, Homer Lee Powers; Sisters, Luella Powers McNease Jacobs, Velma Pauline Lee, Onita Powers, Lillie Merle Powers Carter. Stephens “Steve” B. Campbell, 78, of Center, Texas, died March 21, 2018 in Nacogdoches. He was born on March 26, 1939 in Houston, Texas to Cyril Henry Campbell and Mary Inez Stephens Campbell.
