The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting January 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shelby County Museum located on Pecan Street. The speaker this month will be Mrs. Margaret Casto with other DRT members.  They will be speaking on the history of the Republic of Texas. Everyone is invited to attend.

AARON ROBINSON, SR.
Aaron Robinson Sr., 69, of Las Cruz, New Mexico died December 26, 2018 in Las Cruz New Mexico. Interment was in Northwest Louisiana Veteran Cemetery. He was born on June 5, 1949. Johnnie Evelyn Sanford, 83, of Center, died January 4, 2019 in Center. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born July 13, 1935, in Shelbyville, to William Henry (Willie) Clark and Annie Love Enmon Clark. She graduated from Shelbyville High School. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Son, Danny Crowley; Son-in-law, Larry Bubba Byrnes; Brothers, Maxie Clark, Derwood Clark, Burk Clark. THOMAS DANIEL FRANKS
Thomas Daniel Franks, 86, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died December 31, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. He was born January 29, 1932 in Stockman, Shelby County, Texas to Bernard D. and Anna Belle Ramsey Franks. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Son, Thomas Daniel Franks, Jr. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1948. Survivors include, Wife, Dorothy Smith Franks; Son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Ginger Franks of Woden; Daughter and son-in-law, Luanna and Jerry Adams of Houston; Son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Carolyn Franks of Hudson; Daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Jay Richardson of Nacogdoches; Sister, Lurlene Franks Boyett of Stockman, Texas; Brother and sister-in-law, Truman and Cathie Franks of Selma. He began his lifelong career in education with the Brazosport ISD where he was an elementary teacher and assistant principal from 1951-56. After earning a masters’ degree in Education from the University of Houston in 1956, he taught at Westminster College and Bible Institute in Tehuacana, Texas from 1956-58. He pursued a Doctor of Education degree from Indiana University at Bloomington during 1958-61, while also teaching at Fairview Elementary in Bloomington from 1959-1961. Following a teaching appointment at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater during 1961-63, he completed his doctorate from Indiana University and joined the Elementary Education faculty at his alma mater, SFASU. Dr. Franks became Chair of the Department in 1965, Associate Dean of Education in 1990, and Dean of Education in 1992. He retired in August 2000. Among the numerous contributions made during his career, Dr. Franks took great pride in his part to bring a doctoral program in educational leadership to SFA; the establishment of the SFA/NISD Charter School; the expansion of the SFA Early Childhood Laboratory; and the passage of the bond issue that resulted in the construction of the present Nacogdoches High School.
 
MARTHA ANN MANASCO
Martha Ann Manasco, 71, of Timpson, died January 6, 2019, in Timpson, Texas. She was born July 10, 1947, in Paxton Community, Shelby County, Texas to Andrew Ollis Sholar and Ethel Lee Lewis Munn. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Roy Hershal Manasco; Brother, Robert Sholar. Survivors include, Children, Patricia Manasco, Cynthia Short & husband James Henry Short Jr., Roy Hershal Manasco Jr.; Brothers, Andrew Ollis Sholar Jr. & wife Jenny, John Edward Sholar, Richard Wayne Sholar & wife Scottie; Sister, Laura Lynn Rushing & husband Bill; Sister-in-law, Mae Sholar.

She was born on July 23, 1927 in Maud, Texas to Travis Banks and Iva Lewis Banks. She served Shelby County as County Auditor for 28 years. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, where he saw action in the South West Pacific Theatre.
