The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting March 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street.  The speaker this month will be Mr. Neal Murphy of San Augustine.  He is a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas as well as the Sons of the American Revolution, being the great, great grandson of Col. Alexander Horton, one of the founding fathers of the state of Texas.  He will be touching on several topics of interest pertaining to our area.  Everyone is invited to attend.




Heather Lianne Caughman Hudman, 39, of Carthage, died February 27, 2016, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born August 16, 1976, in Baytown, Texas. She was preceded in death by, Father, Gene Caughman. Survivors include, Children, Jade Kirkland & husband, Seth Mika Hudman, Devan Hudman, Lanie Hudman; Parents, Lance and Pat Locke; Siblings, Jason Locke & wife, Shelley, Heidi Cox & husband, Samuel, Kyle Locke & wife, Kellie, Kathryn Hudman & husband, Dewayne, Andrea Locke, Paul Caughman.

George Daniel ‘Dan’ Furlow, 79, of Homer, Louisiana, died February 24, 2016, at the Claiborne Memorial Medical Center. Interment was in Strong Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born September 14, 1936, in Huxley, Texas, to Neva Green Furlow and Garland Eugene Furlow, being delivered at home by his grandmother, Mamaw Green. He graduated from Strong High School. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Two Baby Girls, Dana & Danette Furlow; Brothers, Carl Furlow, Buck Furlow; Sister, Nell Jobe. Survivors include, Sons, Mark Furlow & wife, Candee of Haynesville, Danny Furlow of Haynesville; Wife, Virginia Furlow of Homer; The Mother of his children, Hilda Rogers Furlow of Haynesville; Step daughters, Karen Bailey Lee & husband, Butch of Homer, Kim Bailey Barnette of Baton Rouge.
Christopher Hornback of Center, Texas, formerly of Oklahoma, died February 25, 2016. Interment will be in Carroll Cemetery, Shelby County. Bobby “Wendy” Hicks, 50, of Tenaha, died February 29, 2016 in Bay City, Texas. Interment will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery, Shelby County.
