THELMA EUGENIA RIVERS HOOPER
Thelma Eugenia Rivers Hooper was born September 14,192A on a farm in Shelby County, Texas a few miles from the town of Joaquin" She was the third child of Richard and Jenny Rivers. ln December of the following year, 192L, her oldest brother, Elbon, died of a 'fever'" Both Thelma and her brother Reuben lived long lives, both making it to ]-00. She was a bright and hardworking young woman who helped out on the farm and was valedictorian of the class of 1938 in her high school. She qualified for 3 scholarships on graduation but could not take advantage of them because her father was injured. Thelma helped her mother in looking after her father following an injury he received while pulling stumps that summer. Unfortunately, he died of that injury in October of that same year. Following her father's death, she and her mother moved to Dallas where Reuben lived and she attended Draughon Business College. After graduation from Draughon, she was employed by the US Civil Service Commission. She continued with the Civil Service and rose through its ranks until her retirement in 1975. October 5, 1963 she married Travis Hooper. They were married 25 years until his death July 13, 1988. A good Christian, she was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ for more than 50 years. She eventually sold her house and moved into a retirement community in early 2000s. There she was very popular with the staff and other residents because of her quiet charm and good manners. She continued quilting, crafts and reading as long as her eyesight allowed. She slipped away with the angels February 6 to be with her Lord, and her good friends and family that had gone before. She was preceded in death by her great nephew, Jeffrey Rivers {Amber) and is survived by her niece, Ruby Reed {Larry} and nephew, Richard Rivers {Marilyn}, great nieces Stacey Petrides {Philip}, Beckie Clark (.Jason), Jennie Nelson {Ben}, all of their children and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hooper.
