The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting March 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street.  The speaker this month will be Mr. Neal Murphy of San Augustine.  He is a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas as well as the Sons of the American Revolution, being the great, great grandson of Col. Alexander Horton, one of the founding fathers of the state of Texas.  He will be touching on several topics of interest pertaining to our area.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Barkley Ben Bowlin, 77, of Tenaha, died March 01, 2016 in Carthage. Interment was in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born March 18, 1938 to Jodie and Freda Roberts Bowlin. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Rose Bowlin of Center; Son, Michael Ray Bowlin & wife, Mona of Tenaha; Daughter, Dawn Ritter & husband, Emmit of Carthage; Sisters, Gloria Fiedler & husband, Joe of Timpson, Kathy Birdwell & husband, Jimmy of Kennedale, Texas.

William “Bill” Skinner, 76, of Joaquin, died March 04, 2016 in Joaquin. He was born June 01, 1939 in Ringgold, Louisiana to James Edward Skinner and Janie Ruth Skinner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
