                The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 17, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. Our guest speaker this month will be Terri Lacher, a local researcher.  She will be speaking to us about the World War II German Prison Camp in Center.  Everyone is invited to attend.

WILLIAM DAVID JAKAB
William David Jakab, 86, of Tenaha, Texas, died March 29, 2018 in Center, Texas. He was born on October 2, 1931 in Washington, Canada to Andy and Emma Jakab. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Phyllis Jakab. Survivors include, Son, David William Jakab & wife, Elvira of Alexandria, Kentucky; Daughter, Anna Clinton of Florence, South Carolina; Step-daughter, Dezray Jakab of Alexandria, Kentucky.

DR. WILLIAM V. GINN, JR.
Dr. William V. “Bill” Ginn, Jr., 87, of Center, died March 8, 2018, in Center. Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Karen Jones officiating. Bill was born February 7, 1931, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Marie and William V. Ginn. He was invited to join the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, and was sent to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The Ginns were sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was there that Bill became a helicopter pilot, and then a helicopter pilot instructor. This promotion meant another move to Ozark, Alabama, the Home of Fort Rucker, the Helicopter Training Base. After two years, he was granted an early release, and he entered the University Of Tennessee School Of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from the School of Medicine as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Honor Society of Medicine. In 1977, he moved to Center, Texas, to join the Memorial Clinic with Doctors Hunter Mallory and Joe B. Hooker. In 1992, he was asked to head the Tenaha Clinic. He was there until he retired in 1992. Bill was a man of integrity with a great compassion for his patients. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, Dr. Bob Ginn. Survivors include, Wife, Eleanor of Center, Texas; Sons, David Ginn of Center, Texas, Andy Ginn & wife, Jennifer, of Frisco, Texas.

RAQUEL LEON GARCIA
Raquel Leon Garcia, 29, of Center, died March 31, 2018, in Dallas. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born September 6, 1988, in Center, to Nicolas Leon-Moreno and Maria D. Garcia de Leon. Survivors include, Husband, Salomon Sandoval; Son, Wylmer A. Fuentes; Mother, Maria D. MARY RUTH SHEWMAKER TYRE
Mary Ruth Shewmaker Tyre, 75, of Center, died April 2, 2018, in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born September 26, 1942, in Dallas, to Markus Shewmaker and Dolly Mae McKnight Shewmaker. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Charles Tyre. BARBARA BUSSEY WINDHAM
Barbara Bussey Windham died April 3, 2018 at her home in Bossier City, Louisiana. A private family memorial service will be held. Barbara was a graduate of Center High School and Massey Business College. In 1970, Barbara and John opened Windham Home Furnishings and worked side by side until 1996 when the business was sold to Ivan Smith Furniture. She was preceded in death by, Husband, John Dean; Parents, Mac and Mattie Lou Bussey; Brother, Charlie Mac Bussey; Sister-in-law, Lucretia Liem Bussey. Survivors include, Sons, Brad Windham of Center, John Phillip & her daughter-in-law, Chana, of Bossier City, Louisiana, Michael Windham of Bossier City; Sister, Mary Lou Lout & husband, Howard, of Center.

Harold Edward Bloodgood, 70, of Center, died April 3, 2018, at his residence. Interment will be in Campti Methodist Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born September 23, 1947, in Houston, to Charles Bloodgood and Sarah Lorene Cox Bloodgood. He was preceded in death by, Father, Charles Bloodgood; Mother, Sarah Lorene Cox White. MAYNARD WILSON
Maynard Wilson, 93, of Toledo Bend, died March 26, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 11, 1925, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country during World War II, entering service in the U.S. Army and later serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was preceded in death by, Wife, Barbara Wilson. Survivors include, Sons, Laurie Wilson & wife, Margaret of Toledo Bend, Texas, Rick Wilson & wife, Traci of Elk Grove, California.
