The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 19, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street.  Our guest speaker this month will be Mr. Bill O'Neal.  Mr. O'Neal is the Texas State Historian and is a well-known author.  He has written many books about the history of Texas.  He taught history for many years at Panola College.  He will be speaking to us about San Jacinto Day.  Everyone is invited to attend.

SYBIL JEWEL WALKER
Sybil Jewel Walker, 93, of Center, died March 30, 2016 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Natchez, Mississippi. She was born May 24, 1922 in Haynesville, Louisiana to John Perry and Laura Annie Tanner Foster. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Frank Walker; Brother, Perry Duane Foster; Sisters, Elizabeth Smart, Dorothy Van Orsdol, Evenlyn Brown, Marcelyn Foster; Infant Sister, Maxine Foster. Survivors include, Daughter, Gladys Giddons & husband, Bob of Mt. Pleasant; Son, Danny Walker & wife, Gladys of Conroe; Brother-in-law, Doug Walker of West Monroe, Louisiana.

EVERETT DUKE HARBISON
Everett Duke Harbison 80, of Center, died April 03, 2016 at his residence. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born May 18, 1935 in Shelby County to Leon Harbison and Vallie Bell Samford Harbison. He retired from Center Police Department after 16 years of service and was Constable in Center for 4 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Wife, Shirlynn Harbison of Center; Children, Velinda Graves & husband, Ron of Brazoria, Ricky Harbison & wife, Vicki of Center, Stephanie Harbison & fiancé, Philip Reynolds of Center; Sister, Willie Lynn Shofner & husband, Carl of Center.

CRAIG CROCKER
Craig Crocker, 28, of Center, died April 02, 2016 at his residence. Interment was in New Hope Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born March 30, 1988 in Nacogdoches to Willie Bob and Betty Ann Smotherman Crocker. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, Son, Caden Randall Crocker; Brother, Clint Crocker of Huxley.

CLOVIS GENE ADAMS, SR.
Clovis Gene “Hammer” Adams, Sr., 80, of Tenaha, died April 03, 2016 at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Center, Texas. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas.  He was born March 16, 1936 in Tenaha to Rev. John Henry Adams and Louise Bussey Adams. Survivors include, Daughters, Cristy Byndom & husband, Keith of Center, Vee Allsbrooks & husband, Mitchell of Rusk; Son, Clovis Gene Adams, Jr. & wife, Leslie of Rusk; Seven Sisters; Three Brothers.

William Wayne Hopkins, 83, of Center, died April 5, 2016, in Nacogdoches. Interment will be in White Rock Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born February 20, 1933, in Shelby County, to George Hopkins and Ruby Lois Counts Hopkins. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sisters, Ruth Hopkins, Mildred Hopkins Bolden, Georgia Pauline Hopkins Jacobs; Brothers-in-law, Paul Bolden, Billy Ray Jacobs. Survivors include, Wife, Wanda Hopkins; Children, Lois Hopkins Robbins, William Hopkins Jr. & wife, Samira, Julie Boland Hopkins & husband, Donnie, Stephen Hopkins, Synthia Bailey & husband, Weldon.
