The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting May 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street.  Our speaker this month will be either Mr. Sam Wheeler or Mr. Mike Brister.  He will speak to us about a program they have for the CenterAthletic Department called Uncommon. Everyone is invited to attend.

ED ROBERTS
Ed Roberts, 74, of Center, died May 7, 2017, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. He was born May 29, 1942, in Glendale, California. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Roberts retired from Center Police Department after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Center Volunteer Fire Department, Christian Motorcycle Association, and for the last 30+ years, he was “Santa Rides A Motorcycle”. He was preceded in death by, Wife, Patricia Roberts; Father, Earl Ellis Roberts; Mother, Dovie Roberts; Sister, Virginia Copeland. Survivors include, Children, Eddie Roberts, Jr. of Nacogdoches, David Roberts of Sugar Land, Cindy Roberts of San Antonio; Brothers and Sisters, David Roberts of Center, Mike Roberts of Kentucky, Lorelei Roberts of Shelbyville, Teenah Darrow of Massachusetts, Delbert Roberts of Shelbyville.

Jessy Sigler, 20, of Center, died May 7, 2017, in Center. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas. She was born May 9, 1996, in Nacogdoches, to Steve Sigler and Robyn Broomfield Sigler. Nelva "Nell" McFadden Rhodes, 86, of Timpson, Texas, died May 5, 2017 in Timpson. Interment was in Timpson Missionary Baptist Cemetery. She was born on February 17, 1931 in the Yarnell Community, Panola County to Beatrice McFadden and Zoie Mae Taylor McFadden.. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Elvis Rhodes; Brothers, Leonard McFadden, Clovis McFadden, Sam McFadden; Sister, Reba Guillory. Survivors include, Daughters, Judy Raines & husband, Buck, Kay Whitton & husband, Cecil.

Bobby Elton Renfro, 73, of Nacogdoches, died May 03, 2017 in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Saints Rest Cemetery, Nacogdoches. He was born July 12, 1943 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Frank and Lucille Powers Renfrow. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include, Mother, Lucille Renfrow of Nacogdoches, Texas; Children, Adam Renfro of Timpson, Texas, Rebecca Renfro of Nacogdoches, Texas, Tim and Misty Renfro of Cameron, North Carolina; Sisters, Betty and Carolyn.

George Thomas “Tom” Green, Jr., 61, of Tenaha, Texas, died May 5, 2017. Interment was in Tennessee Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born on July 26, 1955 in Houston, Texas to George Thomas Green, Sr. and Billie Lou Green. He was preceded in death by, Father, George Thomas Green, Sr.; Daughter, Faith Nicole Green; Sister, Patricia Elain Riberdy. Survivors include, Mother, Billie Lou Green; Sons, Christopher Thomas Green & wife, Kira, Aaron Max Green; Mother of his children, Janet Green.

Charles Thomas Chambliss, 80, of Lufkin, died May 08, 2017. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Memorial Park. He was born January 6, 1937 in Center, Texas, to Viola Fenley and Thomas Leonard Chambliss. Mr. Chambliss proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the U. S. Aircraft Carrier Oriskany.
