The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting October 21, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be David Swanzy.  He will be talking to us about "Fifteen Famous Men of 19th Century Shelby County." Everyone is invited to attend.

Edward Henry Vaughn, 67, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died October 14, 2014, in Houston Texas. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Memorial Park, Lufkin, Texas. He was born on June 20, 1947, in Center, Texas to Thomas Henry Vaughn and Ella Alice Snider. He graduated from Joaquin High School in 1965. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sister, Agnes Bryan. Survivors include, Wife, Joan Patricia Stansel Vaughn; Daughter, Susan Cavanaugh & husband, Jeff; Sisters, Bertha Lee Raymond & husband, Dean, Mildred Dillard, Joan O’Rear.

Artis “Shedro” Jackson, 80, of Shelbyville, Texas, died October 12, 2014 at San Augustine Memorial Hospital. Interment will be in Thompson Cemetery, Shelby County. Pearl Mae Taylor Coon Burgay, 86, of Center, died October 15, 2014 in Nacogdoches. Interment will be in Neuville Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born February 12, 1928 in Utopia, Bandera County, to Robert R. Taylor and Edith Swearington Taylor. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husbands, Claude Elmo Coon, Leon Burgay; Brothers, Frank Taylor, Henry Taylor; One Infant Sister; Stepdaughters, Betty Jean, Dorothy Louise; Stepson, Ronnie Burgay. He was born February 10, 1939 in Joaquin to Wayne and Lottie Mae Wilson Walker. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Jeanne Marcelle Henry, 95, died October 9, 2014. Marcelle was born June 28th, 1919 in d’Ecommoy, France to John Hendrick Roberts, an American soldier stationed in France, who married a lovely young French maiden, Marcelle Naomi Desmouliere. Hendrick brought his new family back to Center, Texas, then to New York City, then back to Texas during Marcelle’s formative years. Survivors include, Sons, William Hendrick Henry & wife, Ginny, John Robert Henry & wife, Debbie.
