OBITUARIES

 

MAYOR MICHAEL RAMSEY
Mayor Michael "Runt" Ramsey, 71, of Tenaha, Texas, died November 17, 2021 in Tyler, Texas.  Interment was in Restland Cemetery, Tenaha.  He was born August 7, 1950 to W. L. and Juanita Ramsey in Shreveport, Louisiana.  He graduated from Tenaha ISD in 1968.  He was inducted into the Tenaha Tiger Hall of Honor in 2013, and the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame 2015.  In 2020, he decided to get into politics as he was elected Mayor of Tenaha where he served until his death. This past year the School Board voted to name the new Athletic Field House in honor of him.  He was preceded in death by, Father, W. L. "Sausage" Ramsey; Mother, Juanita Ramsey; Sister, Janet Barton; Brother, Ron Ramsey.  Survivors include, Nephews, Brent Barton of Fort Worth, Russell Ramsey of Houston, Andrew Ramsey of Houston; Nieces, Kelsey Morris & Husband of Salt Lake City, Allison Ramsey of Los Angeles; Brother-in-law, Robert Barton & wife Janice of Tenaha; Sister-in-law, Beryl Ramsey of Houston.

ANNIE LUE DAVIS
Annie Lue “Geggs” Davis, 81, died November 16, 2021 in Nacogdoches, Texas.  Shewas born in Timpson, Texas on April the 30th, 1940. Ann graduated from Timpson high school in 1958.  She was preceded in death by, Parents, B. C. Thornton, and Leonard and Annie Davis; Brothers, James F. Davis, Leonard T. “Bubba/Pete” Davis; Husband, Bill Davis.  Survivors include, Sister, Mary Stevens & husband, John; Bonus sons, Billy Davis, Glenn Davis & wife, Pam Davis; Bonus daughter, Debbie Gray.

Kathy Eva Metcalf Krog, 52, of Temple, Texas, died November 21, 2021, in Temple.  Interment was in McClelland Cemetery, Shelby County.  She was born October 24, 1969, in Center, to Bernard Harold Metcalf and Martha Guinelle Sartors Metcalf. Michael Duane “Mike” Permenter, 69, of Center, died November 17, 2021, in Nacogdoches.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.  He was born April 6, 1952, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Bill Permenter and Betty Perkins Permenter.  He was preceded in death by, Father, Bill Permenter; Brother, Jerry Permenter.   Survivors include, Mother, Betty Permenter of Center; Brother, Jim Permenter & wife Jan of Center; Sister, Suzanne Richards & husband Rex of Center; Sister-in-law, Janie Permenter.

Murlene K. DALE STEPP
Dale Stepp, 91, of Tenaha, died November 23, 2021, in Nacogdoches.  Interment was in Restland Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas.  He was born March 1, 1930, in Tenaha, to Marvin Dart Stepp and Evanell Agnew Stepp. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. OTIS BRODIE TAMPLIN
Otis Brodie Tamplin, 96, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Huxley, Texas and Port Neches, Texas, died November 15, 2021. Interment was in Strong Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born in Shelby County in East Texas on June 18, 1925, to Kage and Rosa Tamplin.  He served his country in the U. S. Army serving in the European Theater in WWII. In the summer of 1944, he was part of the Normandy invasion, and was later wounded in Brest, France. He spent Christmas of 1944 in a hospital in Europe. He was discharged the next year from Camp Carson in Colorado, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Battle Star and European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Ribbon.  He was preceded in death by, Wife, Bobbie Tamplin; Son, Mike Tamplin; Brothers (and sisters-in-law) Zach Tamplin, Weldon Ward (Chuck) Tamplin and Dell, Dwight Tamplin and Jeanette; Parents.  Survivors include, Daughter, Jane Ann Burnap; Son-in-law, Walt Burnap.

James Allen Payne, Sr., 86, of Hemphill, Texas, died November 26, 2021, in League City, Texas.  He was born in Center, Texas on November 13, 1935, to A. J. (Jimmie) and Mary Coy Dellinger Payne. Ricky Wayne Daniels, 55, died November 22, 2021.  Interment was in Westview Cemetery, Center, Texas.  He was born on February 22, 1966, to Cleo and Billie Joyce Daniels in Center, Texas.  In 1984, Ricky graduated from Center High School where he excelled on the basketball court.  He served his country in the U. S. GRADY A. LEWIS
Grady A. Lewis, 95, of Shelby County, Texas, died November 30, 2021, at his residence.  Interment was in Chinquapin Cemetery, San Augustine County.  He was born October 28, 1926, in San Augustine County's Steep Creek community to Ivy B. and Leona (Crocker) Lewis.  He proudly served his country as a Seaman First Class with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Among his assignments, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor.  He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother, Harmon Lewis.  Survivors include, Wife, Jean C.
