OBITUARIES

WILLIE BARRON DAVIS
Willie Barron Davis, 86, of Joaquin, Texas, died November 28, 2023.  Interment was in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born on August 6, 1937, in Joaquin, Texas, to John Edward Davis and Irene (Jimmerson) Davis.  He graduated from Joaquin High School. He proudly served his great country in the United States Air Force.  He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sons, Gordon Mattingly, Billy Mattingly; Daughter, Urana Siedler; Brother, Kenneth Davis; Sisters, Barbara Cook, Betty Joan Davis.  Survivors include, Wife, Thelma Davis; Sons, Tony Mattingly & wife Carla, David Davis & wife Tammie Luman, Edward Davis & wife Gayle Louis; Daughters, Dawn Grimsley Carroll & husband Paul, Nikki Hardy, Tina Mattingly; Sister, Carolyn McGhee & husband Michael.

GEORGE ARTHUR SHULZ
George Arthur "Yellow Dog" Shultz, 78, of Shelby County, Texas, died November 25, 2023, at his residence.  He was born October 5, 1945, in Fostoria, Ohio, to George Arthur and Orpha Jean (Yeager) Shultz. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army, making that his career until retirement in 1984. Mr. Shultz served during the Vietnam and Korean eras and was a Purple Heart award recipient.  He was preceded in death by his Parents.  Survivors include, Wife, Marty Shultz of Shelby County; Daughter, Jean Hogard of Edmund, Oklahoma; Sons, George Arthur Shultz III, Guy Shultz, both of Washington State; Brothers and sisters.
An inurnment with memorial honors is being planned later at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

HUGH L. DAW
Hugh L. Daw, 80, of Joaquin, died November 30, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Interment was in Ashton Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born February 20, 1943, in Joaquin, to Waymon Daw and Euna Seago Daw. In 1961, Hugh graduated from Joaquin High School.  He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sisters and Brother, Patty Kupnicki, Virginia Baker, and Maurice Westbrook; Son-in-law, John Paul McSwain.  Survivors include, Daughters, Joel Bumback & husband Mike, Dawn Hutchins & husband Jacob; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law, Hazel Brittain, Ella Manshack, Pete Baggett; Beloved mother of his children, Joyce Noble.

AUDREY TAYLOR
Audrey Taylor, 101, of Center, died December 2, 2023, in Center.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.  She was born August 26, 1922, in Shelby County, to Eddie Watson and Ona Brown Watson.  She was preceded in death by, Husband, William Ramsey Taylor; Parents; Sisters, Iris Taylor, Verna Hull, & Ruth Auberry; Brother, W. C. Watson.  Survivors include, Son, Chris Taylor, & wife, Cyndi.

EVELYN E. BRANDT NEEL
Evelyn E. Brandt Neel, 93, of Timpson, Texas, died November 30, 2023, in Nacogdoches, Texas.  Interment was in Tennessee Cemetery, Shelby County.  She was born on May 6, 1930, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Albert E. and Alma Taylor Brandt.  She was preceded in death by, Husband, David Neel; Parents; 4 Sisters; 2 Brothers.  Survivors include, Son, Dennis Conran; Sister, Lillie Jonas.

FLOSSIE ESTELLE McDONALD RADCLIFF
Flossie Estelle McDonald Radcliff, ​89, of Center, Texas, died November 24, 2023, at her home. She was born April 7, 1934 near Gilt Edge, Tennessee to sharecropper parents John Curtis McDonald and Nannie Mae Jones McDonald.   On July 21, 1951, “Miss Flossie” married her loving and devoted husband, Tom. Together they raised three sons who survive them: Thomas of Logansport, Louisiana, Michael of Memphis, Tennessee and Donald of Center, Texas.  Tom passed away in 2009.

YVONNE HARRIS PERMENTER
Yvonne Harris Permenter, 91, died December 3, 2023, at Pine Grove Nursing Center.  Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Center, Texas.  She was born May 17, 1932 in Center to Austin Harris and Ruby Green Harris. She graduated from Center High School at the age of 16.  She was preceded in death by, Husband, Elvin; Parents; Sister, Maggie Harris Strebeck; Stepsiblings, Marguerite Harris Kiss, Robert Harris, Monroe Harris. Survivors include, Sister, Johnnye Kraemer of Center; Children, James Permenter (Butch) & his wife Deb of Granbury, Texas, Belinda Loftice & her husband Matt of Center, Texas.

CHARLES CHRISTOPHER GOODWIN
Charles Christopher Goodwin, 68, died November 30, 2023, at Pinegrove Nursing Facility.  Interment was in Africa St John’s Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born on April 23, 1955, in Center, Texas to Eddie Ruth Goodwin and the late C.W. Randall.  Survivors include, Son, Sekederick McCoy (Jarrien) and LaChadwrick Barnes of Houston, Texas; Mother, Eddie Ruth Goodwin of Center, Texas; Siblings, Sandra Goodwin, John Wayne Goodwin (Toleshia), Lolita Randall, Deborah Randall, Kenneth Randall, Joyce Nelson (Minister James Nelson).

JOHN WILSON HORN
John Wilson Horn, 82, died November 26, 2023, at home in Moss Point, Mississippi.  Interment will be in Cool Springs Cemetery, Logansport, Louisiana.  He was born in Logansport, Louisiana, to Woodrow Wilson and Floy Faye Gates Horn.  He served in the United States Air Force, A1FC, and continued as an active reservist until 1965. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Stepson, Robert “Robbie” Tanner.  Survivors include, Wife, Gwen Horn; Sister, Portia Faye Horn King (Ronald King) & family of Joaquin; Brother, Terry Lee Horn (Mary Townsend Horn) & family of Dothan, Alabama; Son, Todd Horn of Richmond, Texas; Wm. Kelly Horn (Veronica Cramer) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Jill Maureen Horn Reed (Suzanne Reed) of Denton, Texas.

SAMMY LAVON ONTIVEROS
Sammy Lavon Ontiveros, 58, of Center, Texas, died December 4, 2023, in Nacogdoches, Texas.  Interment will be in Old Salem Cemetery, Shelby County.  He was born on September 2, 1958, in San Augustine, Texas, to Leon Ontiveros and Ollie Mae (Scott) Ontiveros.  He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brother-in-law, Eddie Stifflemire, Sr.  Survivors include, Son, Austin Boylen & wife Alexis; Daughter, Eva Boylen & husband Chris; Brother, Damon Ontiveros; Sister, Elane Stifflemire.

Mary Connie Elizabeth Adams, 72, of Center, Texas, died November 24, 2023 at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.  She was preceded in death by, Brother, Waymon Timothy Adams; Mother, Sarah Gertrude Higby Adams; Father, Waymon Homer Adams.  Survivors include, Brothers, Hilton Hammett Adams, Woody Stephen Adams.

L. T. Morris, 88, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died December 1, 2023.  Interment was in Antioch Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.  Limmie T. Morris was born January 29, 1935 in Nacogdoches County to Travis, Sr. and Annie Mae Morris.  He graduated from Timpson High School in Timpson, Texas.  He was preceded in death by, Parents, Travis, Sr. and Annie Mae Morris; Brothers, Bobby Joe Morris and Travis Morris, Jr.; Wife, Winnie Morris; Son, Rocky Suell Morris, Sr.; Wife, Katherine Morris; Sisters-in-law Oweeda Morris and Earnestine Morris.  Survivors include, Brothers, Reverend William G. Morris of Nacogdoches, Texas, J.W.
