The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting September 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shelby County Museum located on Pecan Street. The speaker this month will be Mr. Bill O”Neal. He will be speaking to us about Texas in World War I. The program will consist of interviews he had students do with people that they knew who were in WWI when he was teaching history at Panola College. Everyone is invited to attend.

George Travis Clay, Jr., 85, of Timpson, Texas, died August 30, 2018 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born May 10, 1933, in Timpson, Texas, to George Travis Clay, Sr. and Gladys Frederick Clay. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Harold and Wanda Clay, Richard and Judy Clay; Daughter-in-law, Ricann Clay. Travis attended Timpson High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Survivors include, Wife, Bobbie Linthicum Clay; Children, Dean Clay of Garrison, Texas, Sandy Walters & husband Bobby of Yoakum, Texas.

WARREN G. MC SWAIN
Warren G. McSwain, 97, died September 2, 2018 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Interment was in Old Salem Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born April 27, 1921 in San Augustine County, Texas; a sixth generation of Angus MacSween who sailed to America in 1802 from Island of Skye in Scotland. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Wife, Lillian Brown McSwain; Son, Warren Gene McSwain; An infant son, Ronnie Clark McSwain; Brothers, Leon McSwain, Elton McSwain, Clarence McSwain; Sister, Agnes Barber Tyler. Survivors include, Son, Travis L. McSwain & wife Donna of Cypress, Texas; Daughters, Jeanette Mena & husband Lynn of Broaddus, Texas, Edna Rae Carroll & husband Robert (Bob) of Tomball, Texas; Sisters-in-law, Ruth Brown Armand of Spring, Texas, Judy Brown of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

OSBURN FRANKLIN ADAMS
Osburn Franklin “Butch” Adams, 90, of Shelbyville, died September 1, 2018, at his residence. Interment was in Adams Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born March 13, 1928, to Henry Franklin Adams and Maudie Soape Adams in the McClelland Community of Shelbyville. He earned his nickname of “Butch” by butchering for Herbert Sanders in 1946. Butch served as Constable for Precinct 2 from 1966 until 1989. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Children, O. F. Adams, Jr., Marsha Singletary; Siblings. Survivors include, Wife, Laverne Adams; Daughter, Melba Lee.

WENDELL CLEAVER, SR.
Wendell Cleaver, Sr., was born on March 21, 1942 to Elgin B. Cleaver and Loma Fluellen. He graduated from East Liberty High School in Shelbyville, Texas in 1961. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He served 10 ½ years, 2 tours in Vietnam. He received multiple awards, Purple Heart and a few more. Survivors include, Wife, Diane Cleaver; Children, Wendell Jr. , Faye Dell, Michele, Diane; Brothers, Billy Cleaver, Elgin B. Cleaver.
J. C. CHOATE
J. C. Choate, 83, of Center, died September 4, 2018, in Nacogdoches. Interment will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born January 9, 1935, in Center, to Pierson Choate and Mae Wilson Choate. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, Andrew Choate, Donnie Choate, Jimmy Ray Choate. Survivors include, Son, Jason Choate & wife Lorei, of Center; Brothers, Jimmy Gene Choate of Lumberton, C.C. Eddie Bailey, 83, of Tenaha, died September 5, 2018, in Center. Interment will be in Tennessee Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born August 22, 1935, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Norman Bailey and Mae Criner Bailey. He served his country in the United States Air Force, where he retired as Senior Master Sargent after 28 years of service. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Sisters, Norma Wilbourn, Peggy Langford.
