The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting November 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker this month will be Mr. David Swanzy.  He will speak to us about the Elusive Historical Facts that enhance Shelby County traditional history.  Everyone is invited to attend.

The Shelby County Historical Society would like to invite everyone to come by and see our new exhibit.  Roger and Judy Doyle have a wonderful collection of artifacts of the Civil War Era they have on display at the Shelby County Museum.

REECIE ROBERTSON STANLEY
Reecie Robertson Stanley, 79, of the Spann’s Chapel Community, Center, Texas, died November 2, 2015 in Houston. Interment will be in Spann’s Chapel Cemetery, Shelby County. She was born October 26, 1936 in the Ramah Community in Tenaha, Texas to Archie Byron and Eula Etta Joplin Robertson. She was a teacher for 39 years where she taught in Angleton, West Columbia, Center and Shelbyville, Texas. She loved quilting and researching her family and numerous family genealogies and histories. She became a volunteer at the Shelby County Museum in 2000 and she was a member of the Shelby County Historic Commission. Reecie was a faithful supporter of the historical society, museum and genealogy library.  She was preceded in death by, Parents; Husband, Bobby L. Stanley. Survivors include, Sons, Steve Stanley of Center, Mark Stanley & wife, Linda of Center, Pat Stanley & wife, Angela of Roanoke, Stuart Stanley & wife, Mariana of Spring, Simon Stanley & wife, Carla of Center; Siblings, Lynelle Richardson, Barbara Woods, Archie Robertson, Jr., Nancy Thrasher, Lena Carol Gibson; Sister-in-law, Marie Long of Center.
(Words cannot express how much Reecie will be missed by her "Volunteer Family" at the museum.  She was our Friday lady and helped many people research their genealogy during the years she worked here - they will miss her also.)

Margie graduated from Timpson High School in 1945. She was preceded in death by, Parents; Brothers, Roy Ramsey, James Ramsey; Sisters, Grace Pledger, Troy Webb, Mary Levennie Galbreath, Emma Milford. Billy Joe Bowen, 80, of Center, died October 31, 2015, in Nacogdoches. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Center, Texas. He was born April 14, 1935, in Black Jack, Texas, to Willie L. Bowen and Livvie Lee Luman Bowen. Mr. Bowen served his country in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by, Parents; Two Infant Sisters; Sister, Mildred Bowen Arnold; Brother, Cecil Bowen. Rev. Johnny Allen, 89, of Center, died October 31, 2015 at his residence. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shelby County. He was born September 18, 1926 in Green Hill, Texas to Royal “Roy” Polk and Nellie Rolf Allen. He pastored churches in the East Texas area and in Louisiana for over 60 years.
